ASTRONAUT WIVES CLUB, THE (ABC/ABC Studios; W: Stephanie Savage; D: Lone Scherfig) - Yvonne Strahovski ("24: Live Another Day") has joined the cast of the upcoming drama, which tells the true story of the women behind NASA's early astronauts and the struggles they face when their lives and families are catapulted into the spotlight overnight. She'll play Rene Carpenter, "an independent and confident astronaut wife who awakens to a high calling in politics, civil rights and women's issues." Aaron McCusker, Azure Parsons, Bret Harrison, Desmond Harrington, Dominique McElligott, Erin Cummings, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Joel Johnstone, Kenneth Mitchell, Odette Annable and Zoe Boyle also star. BIG (FOX, New!) - "Enlisted" alums Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce are developing a small screen take on the famed 1988 comedy feature starring Tom Hanks, about "a young boy who makes a wish "to be big" and is then aged to adulthood overnight." The proposed single-camera comedy is set up at 20th Century Fox Television with Biegel and Royce executive producing. (Deadline.com)
BROAD SQUAD (ABC, New!) - Actress/writer Bess Wohl has scored a put pilot commitment from the Alphabet for a period female cop procedural set in 1978, billed as "a fictionalized account of the graduating class of Boston's first female patrol officers. Dubbed 'The Broad Squad' by the local press, they arrived at a tumultuous time in Boston's history, marked by corruption within the police force and a heightened organized crime presence in the city. Navigating rival neighborhoods as well as the conflicting attitudes toward them from everyone, they find themselves tested both on and off duty." ABC Studios is behind the hour with Fake Empire's Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Len Goldstein as well as Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan executive producing. Wohl then will serve as a co-executive producer with Alexandra Lydon producing. (Deadline.com)
JUSTICE (NBC, New!) - Matt Lopez (The Sorcerer's Apprentice) has sold a new drama to the Peacock about larger-than-life District Attorney Logan Archer, "a brilliant and relentless prosecutor who takes on crime while harboring some deep, dark secrets." Universal Television is behind the hour with Lopez and fellow studio-based John Glenn executive producing. (Deadline.com)
RAVEN ROCK (NBC, New!) - Garrett Graff's upcoming nonfiction book, subtitled "The Inside Story of the U.S. Government's Secret Plan to Save Itself," is being developed as a drama at the Peacock. Said effort, which has a penalty attached, "explores the history of our government's secret efforts to ensure survival if most of America or its leaders are killed in a nuclear attack on the U.S.." Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia are penning the script with Bob Cooper, Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke, Jackie Levine, Tyler Mitchell and Tom Patricia among the executive producers for eOne Television, Paramount Television, Landscape Entertainment and Compari Entertainment. SELF PROMOTION (MTV, New!) - Zach Braff (Wish I Was Here) is set to helm a new comedy pilot for the cable channel about "overworked assistant Katie Preston who discovers that her dragon lady boss is missing (or worse). Things get messy fast, with Katie, believing she'll be the prime suspect, covering up the crime scene. She starts calling the shots in her boss's absence, and goes full CSI to find out what actually happened and exonerate herself." Steve Yockey is executive producing the half-hour, which was conceived by Mark Bianculli. (Deadline.com)
