FOX SPORTS DEPLOYS HIGH-TECH GEAR FOR NLDS COVERAGE

FOX Sports' coverage of the 2014 MLB postseason gets underway tomorrow with coverage of the National League Division Series presented by Budweiser on FOX Sports 1, and each series is armed with an array of sophisticated production tools sure to enhance the viewer experience. New to this postseason and included in both NLDS matchups is Sportvision's "ozone" graphic, which displays defensive shifts and spray charts. Also new is "Hawkeye," an on-screen graphic displaying an advanced strike zone from center field. "Hawkeye" is being introduced during FOX Sports 1's Giants vs. Nationals series, providing a unique view of the strike zone.

In what has become standard issue for FOX Sports' coverage of big events are two different high-speed cameras: Xmo-Cam and FOX Phantom-Cam. Both located in the infield, Xmo-Cam, also known as a "hypermotion" camera, shoots up to 500 frames-per-second while FOX Phantom-Cam ranges from 3,000 to 5,000 frames-per-second. It was FOX Phantom-Cam that famously caught San Francisco Giants batter Hunter Pence's "three-hit" swing during the 2012 NLCS. The slowed-down video showed Pence's cracked bat strike the ball three times en route to a three-run double.

Specifically during the Cardinals-Dodgers matchup, FOX Sports 1 introduces the next-generation dirt cam, buried in front of home plate with a clear view of batter, catcher and umpire. The tiny high-definition camera sits just 3mm off the ground.
