BOOKCLUB (ABC, New!) - Patti Carr and Lara Olsen ("Mixology") have set up a potential comedy at the Alphabet about "four female friends who escape the pressures and responsibilities of adult life by pretending to be in a book club." EROTIC SILENCE OF THE AMERICAN WIFE, THE (ABC, New!) - Sally Robinson (Lifetime's "Steel Magnolias") has sold a new drama to the Alphabet about "a group of disparate women united by a single trait - they're all having illicit affairs." The ABC Studios effort is based on Dalma Heyn's 1992 book of the same name, "which she based on her interviewing several hundred women who had extramarital affairs." Flame Ventures' Tony Krantz and Drew Comins will also serve as executive producer and co-executive producer, respectively. (Deadline.com)

SLAP, THE (NBC/Universal; W: Jon Robin Baitz; D: Lisa Cholodenko) - Lucas Hedges (Kill The Messenger) and Penn Badgley ("Gossip Girl") have both landed roles on the limited series, a complex family drama that explodes from one small incident where a man slaps another couple's misbehaving child. The former will play Ritchie, "Connie's (Makenzie Leigh) good friend who accompanies her to Hector's birthday party"; while the latter is set as Jamie, "Anouk's (Mary Louise-Parker) 25-year-old boyfriend." Brian Cox, Peter Sarsgaard, Zachary Quinto, Thandie Newton and Thomas Sadoski also star. (Deadline.com)

Universal Television-based Will Packer Productions is behind the hour with the company's Will Packer and Korin Huggins also serving as executive producers. (THR.com)

AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Vinnie Jones has been tapped for a three-episode arc on "Arrow" as famed DC Comics villain Danny "Brick" Brickwell (Variety.com); writer Leslie Jones has been promoted to featured player on "Saturday Night Live" (Deadline.com); Roger Howarth will recur on "The Flash" as Mason Bridge, "an award-winning reporter from the Central City Picture News" (Deadline.com); Ed Decter has been tapped as showrunner for Constantin Film's proposed TV series based on "The Mortal Instruments" (Deadline.com); Max Brown has been cast in "Sleepy Hollow" as "a powerful and mysterious new ally known, at first, only as Orion - a charismatic soldier who possesses a game changing weapon" (EW.com); and Terry O'Quinn, Stacy Keach, Chris Bauer, Rita Wilson, Brittany Snow, Patrick Fugit, David Koechner, Calista Flockhart, Eric McCormack and Kate Burton have all boarded the new season of DirecTV's "Full Circle" (THR.com).
