BOOKCLUB (ABC, New!) - Patti Carr and Lara Olsen ("Mixology") have set up a potential comedy at the Alphabet about "four female friends who escape the pressures and responsibilities of adult life by pretending to be in a book club." Universal Television is behind the half-hour, which has a penalty attached. UnbeliEVAble Entertainment's Eva Longoria and Ben Spector likewise are on board to executive produce. (Deadline.com)


EROTIC SILENCE OF THE AMERICAN WIFE, THE (ABC, New!) - Sally Robinson (Lifetime's "Steel Magnolias") has sold a new drama to the Alphabet about "a group of disparate women united by a single trait - they're all having illicit affairs." The ABC Studios effort is based on Dalma Heyn's 1992 book of the same name, "which she based on her interviewing several hundred women who had extramarital affairs." Flame Ventures' Tony Krantz and Drew Comins will also serve as executive producer and co-executive producer, respectively. (Deadline.com)


SLAP, THE (NBC/Universal; W: Jon Robin Baitz; D: Lisa Cholodenko) - Lucas Hedges (Kill The Messenger) and Penn Badgley ("Gossip Girl") have both landed roles on the limited series, a complex family drama that explodes from one small incident where a man slaps another couple's misbehaving child. The former will play Ritchie, "Connie's (Makenzie Leigh) good friend who accompanies her to Hector's birthday party"; while the latter is set as Jamie, "Anouk's (Mary Louise-Parker) 25-year-old boyfriend." Brian Cox, Peter Sarsgaard, Zachary Quinto, Thandie Newton and Thomas Sadoski also star. (Deadline.com)


UNTITLED AMANDA LASHER PROJECT (NBC, New!) - Amanda Lasher ("Gossip Girl") has booked a potential drama at the Peacock about "two LAPD homicide detectives whose personal lives are messier than any crime scene." Universal Television-based Will Packer Productions is behind the hour with the company's Will Packer and Korin Huggins also serving as executive producers. (THR.com)
