ASCENSION (ABC, New!) - Newcomer Kevin O'Hare has sold a potential drama to the Alphabet about "the brilliant but impulsive FBI agent Alexa Reyes who discovers that a staggering amount of the country's most brutal and violent offenders can be traced back to Ascension, Fla. When she tries to uncover the origin of the evil in the resort town she's confronted by her own haunted past, and forces far greater than she ever expected." ABC Studios-based Brillstein Entertainment Partners is behind the hour. (THR.com)
KATE ON LATER (NBC, New!) - Lauren Graham ("Parenthood") is staying in business with the Peacock for a new single-camera comedy about Kate (Graham), "who thought her day job was all her life would amount to when an opportunity arises that's bigger than she ever dreamed possible. But that opportunity means she's going to have to break one of the last remaining glass ceilings - the world of late-night network television talk shows." Graham is also co-writing the half-hour alongside Liz Tuccillo (He's Just Not That Into You) with Tuccillo and the Warner Bros. Television-based A Very Good Production's Ellen DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman executive producing and Graham as a co-executive producer. (Deadline.com)
THE WALKING DEAD: COBALT (AMC/AMC Studios; W: Dave Erickson & Robert Kirkman; D: Adam Davidson) - Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey are the first to be cast in the proposed spin-off, about a male divorced teacher and a female guidance counselor trying to survive the same zombie apocalypse depicted on "The Walking Dead" but in a different location. Dillane will play "the woman's son, who has battled a drug problem"; with Debnam Carey as "the woman's ambitious daughter." (Deadline.com)
