Get ready for more ups and downs of your favorite ficticious news anchor. Being Mary Jane has been renewed for a third season, BET Networks has announced. Series lead Gabrielle Union shared the news with Matt Lauer on the Today show on Thursday morning, giving fans an early Valentine's Day gift.

Now in its second season, Being Mary Jane follows the sometimes distastrous personal and professional life of news anchor Mary Jane Paul. In next week's episode, guest-starring S. Epatha Merkerson, Mary Jane vows to carve out an anxiety-free weekend, but plans go awry when Mark (Aaron Spears) calls asking her to be his "beard" during the unexpected arrival of his parents. Revelations during their visit force Mark to make a major life decision. At the same time, Mary Jane interviews a teenage sex worker, the outcome of which makes her re-evaluate her relationship with Niecy (Raven Goodwin).

The show scored record ratings in its first season. The show also stars Richard Roundtree, Margaret Avery, Richard Brooks, Lisa Vidal, B.J. Britt, Aaron Spears, Latarsha Rose and Stephen Bishop.

Being Mary Jane is created and executive produced by The Game creator Mara Brock Akil and executive produced and directed by Salim Akil.
