CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR, THE (Lifetime/Fox 21/Lionsgate; W: Linda Woolverton; D: Pierre Morel) - Charlene McKenna ("A.D.: The Bible Continues") is the latest to be cast in the drama pilot, based on Jean M. Auel's book which takes place at a time in prehistory more than 25,000 years ago when Neanderthals shared the Earth with the first early modern humans and a band of cave dwellers adopt blond and blue-eyed Ayla (Millie Brady), a child of the "Others." She'll play Iza, "Brun's (Hal Ozsan) sister and the Clan's medicine woman." Johnny Ward also stars. (Deadline.com)

GET DOWN, THE (Netflix/Sony; W: TBA; D: Baz Luhrmann) - Jimmy Smits ("Sons of Anarchy") has joined the cast of the period drama, set in 1970s New York City, about a rag-tag crew of South Bronx teenagers who are nothings and nobodies with no one to shelter them - except each other, armed only with verbal games, improvised dance steps, some magic markers and spray cans. He'll play Francisco Cruz, aka "Papa Fuerte," "a South Bronx political boss who delivers services the City fails to provide - jobs, housing, healthcare, etc. A big man with brass, he navigates downtown politics the same way he handles his uptown turf - with ease and a touch of deception." Herizen Guardiola, Justice Smith, Mamoudou Athie, Shameik Moore, Skylan Brooks, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Tremaine Brown, Jr. also star. (Deadline.com)

UNARMED (HBO, New!) - Oscar-winner Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) is spearheading a potential limited series at the pay channel centering on Amos Searl, "a civilian psychiatrist new to his practice at an Armed Forces medical center that specializes in treating amputees and burn victims, critically wounded veterans just returned from America's recent wars. A double amputee from life's wars himself, Searl - a man who has always questioned authority - tries to make sense and give meaning to our soldiers, the young men and women who are trying, like him, to find their way home." Denis Johnson (Tree of Smoke) is set to pen the Warner Bros. Television-based project, "which is looking for a director in anticipation of a pilot order." Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly will also executive produce via their Timberman-Beverly Productions banner. (Deadline.com)
