"JIMI HENDRIX: ELECTRIC CHURCH" TO MAKE ITS WORLD TELEVISION PREMIERE ON SHOWTIME(R)

Featuring Never-Before-Seen Concert Footage In Front Of His Largest Ever U.S. Audience And Interviews with Paul McCartney and "Experience" Bandmates

Documentary Premieres Friday, September 4th at 9 PM ET/PT On SHOWTIME Linear, On Demand And Over The Internet

LOS ANGELES, CA - (August 3, 2015) - Rock legend Jimi Hendrix captivated the world with his unique, highly stylized, jaw-dropping approach to blues guitar. The new SHOWTIME documentary Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church, premiering Friday, September 4th at 9 p.m. ET/PT on-air, on demand and over the internet, chronicles his largest ever U.S. performance at the massive Atlanta Pop Music Festival in July 1970 with never-before-seen concert footage of the icon in action. Standout performances include such Hendrix classics as "Hey Joe," "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)," "Purple Haze," as well as versions of "Room Full Of Mirrors," "Freedom," "Straight Ahead" and "The Star Spangled Banner" against a backdrop of fireworks. The recently unearthed footage, shot by Steve Rash (The Buddy Holly Story), details the historic night and the efforts of promoter Alex Cooley to create the definitive music festival with Hendrix as the centerpiece.

Directed by John McDermott, Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church showcases breathtaking, 16mm color footage of Hendrix's never-before-aired performance, a mere ten weeks before his untimely death. The film features such contemporaries as Paul McCartney, who stood in awe of his incredible musical prowess. He recalls, "We all played guitar. We all knew a bit. But he seemed to know more than us." Hendrix's Experience bandmates Billy Cox and the late Mitch Mitchell are also featured, as well as Steve Winwood, Rich Robinson, Kirk Hammett, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi.

Hendrix's incredible skills were on glorious display at the Festival, dubbed the "Southern Woodstock" where some 300,000 descended on a tiny rural Georgia town to witness the unforgettable performance. The then-groundbreaking event was seen as a direct challenge to the cultural divide in the deep South. Hendrix's music and message of universal love made him the ideal artist to represent this burgeoning shift. By the time the Jimi Hendrix Experience took the stage on that night, massive, anarchic music fests in the U.S. were soon to be extinct, and the Atlanta Pop Festival was the last of this dying breed. Glenn Phillips (Hampton Grease Band) says, "This was, certainly in retrospect, sort of the end of an era, and a great end to an era. It was a powerful moment."

About Experience Hendrix L.L.C.:
