INTERESTINGS, THE (Amazon/TriStar; W: Lyn Greene & Richard Levine; D: Mike Newell) - Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) has signed on to helm the drama pilot, based on Meg Wolitzer's bestselling book about a group of friends who meet at an arts camp when they're 15 in 1974. His addition lifts the director contingency on the pilot's production. (Deadline.com)
PLEASE DON'T GO (ABC, New!) - Meaghan Oppenheimer (We Are Your Friends) has sold a potential drama to the Alphabet about "the personal and professional life of a ruthless divorce attorney in Dallas. Raised in the trailer parks of Texas, she has left behind a life of struggle amid squalor, working her way into a corner office and mansion in Dallas's most prestigious neighborhood. But beneath her facade of togetherness, she's plagued by self-destructive tendencies and long hidden family secrets that begin to unravel her life." ABC Studios is behind the hour with Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea of Pacific Standard likewise executive producing. (Deadline.com)
WHEN WE RISE (ABC/ABCS; W: Dustin Lance Black; D: Gus Van Sant) - Dustin Lance Black's eight-hour mini-series - which chronicles the personal and political struggles, set-backs and triumphs of a diverse group of men and women as they participate in the movement for equal rights for the LGBT community - has been officially greenlighted for production while Gus Van Sant has also signed on to direct the first two hours. Bruce Cohen and Laurence Mark will also executive produce alongside Black and Van Sant. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - John Singleton's drama pilot "Snowfall" had its application for tax incentives approved by the California Film Commission, increasing its chances for a series order from FX (Deadline.com); and Dan Fogelman's hour-long projects at FOX and NBC have likewise received approval however only the NBC effort has officially been greenlit (Deadline.com).
