(Silver Spring, Md.) - It's become a cliché that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but for the Clark County District Attorney's office, there's nothing cliché about the crimes that affect their city. With more than 60,000 cases a year, including high-profile homicides, robberies, gang-related crimes and assaults on the Strip, these aren't stories pulled from a Hollywood script. They happen to real people just trying to live and let loose under the big lights of Sin City. Investigation Discovery's (ID) new series LAS VEGAS LAW offers exclusive access to District Attorney Steve Wolfson and his powerhouse team of prosecutors who work tirelessly alongside law enforcement officials to pursue justice in their community. Follow in real time as they assess the crime scene, interview victims and witnesses, strategize their case and ultimately chase a conviction in the courtroom. Shot in cinéma vérité and featuring surveillance footage and photography, the series immerses viewers in the high stakes, immensely dramatic environment that makes Vegas distinctive - and its crimes even more so. LAS VEGAS LAW premieres Thursday, May 12 at 10/9c only on ID.
"LAS VEGAS LAW combines the suspense of Law & Order with the tell-all appeal of American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, except we're documenting current criminal cases as they unfold," said Kevin Bennett, general manager of Investigation Discovery. "LAS VEGAS LAW intimately captures all angles of the trial process from both the prosecution and the defense teams, giving viewers unprecedented access to the justice system in a way rarely seen on television."
The first three episodes of LAS VEGAS LAW are:
· LAS VEGAS LAW: "The Evil Men Do"
Series Premiere Episode: Thursday, May 12 at 10/9c
It was a horrific scene in which one man was shot to death and two others were killed in a taxi that went up in a fireball on Las Vegas's iconic Strip. Seeking the death penalty, the DA's office goes after Ammar Harris for the three murders, but will witnesses who were inside Harris's vehicle testify against him so the victims' families can get justice? Meanwhile in the Vegas suburbs, a male massage therapist is charged with sexually abusing two female clients, and a detective who initially didn't believe a crime had occurred finds himself in the middle of the explosive trial.
· LAS VEGAS LAW: "Burden of Proof"
Episode Premiere: Thursday, May 19 at 10/9c
This episode goes inside the "he said/she said" of a sexual assault case. The prosecution has physical evidence: video surveillance showing the man holding an inebriated woman upright as they walk to his room and photos of bruises all over her body. What they don't have is the woman's memory. She can't remember much. The defendant remembers everything, and makes a strong case that nothing illegal occurred in his room. Now the question becomes: who will the jury believe?
· LAS VEGAS LAW: "Out of Control"
Episode Premiere: Thursday, May 26 at 10/9c
It's a case Chief Deputy Richard Scow says "will stick with him forever." The defendant is charged with kidnapping and battery of his friend. Meanwhile across town, the second case goes to trial and, in a twist, two Deputy District Attorneys must convince the jury that a man who stole a case of beer deserves justice, since he was shot by the store clerk. Was the clerk a man protecting his store or a vigilante ready to impose his own "death penalty"?
