Announcing drama series Electric Dreams: The World of Philip K. Dick

Channel 4 and Sony Pictures Television have today announced they are partnering on a hugely ambitious original drama series based on the short stories written by award-winning Sci-Fi novelist Philip K. Dick.

The ten-part anthology series, Electric Dreams: The World of Philip K. Dick, will be written and executive produced by Emmy-nominated Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander) and Michael Dinner (Justified, Masters of Sex), with Oscar nominated Bryan Cranston (Trumbo, Breaking Bad) both executive producing and appearing in the series.

Each episode will be a sharp, thrilling standalone drama adapted and contemporised for global audiences by a creative team of British and American writers. The series will both illustrate Philip K. Dick's prophetic vision and celebrate the enduring appeal of the prized Sci-Fi novelist's work.

The drama will premiere on Channel 4 in the UK and will be distributed internationally by Sony Pictures Television.

Bryan Cranston said; "This is an electric dream come true. We are so thrilled to be able to explore and expand upon the evergreen themes found in the incredible work of this literary master."

"As a long-time fan of Philip K. Dick's work, it's a tremendous honour and thrill to be part of this series," said Ronald D. Moore. "His short stories are a treasure-trove of material for artists to draw from and I think this will be a very exciting project."

Channel 4 Chief Creative Officer Jay Hunt said; "Philip K. Dick's short stories have shaped iconic Hollywood films from Blade Runner to Minority Report. Electric Dreams: The World of Philip K Dick will adapt and modernise his singular vision for a TV audience. We are thrilled to be partnering with the talented team at Sony Pictures Television on an anthology series that brings together global stars of the calibre of Bryan Cranston and Ronald D. Moore."

"As one of the most innovative and ground-breaking novelists of all time, Philip K. Dick and his short stories have allowed us to assemble some of the most prolific and award-winning creative auspices within our Sony family to reimagine his work," said Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, presidents of U.S. programming and production for SPT. "Channel 4 has a bold and successful slate and we're fortunate to have them as a passionate producing partner."

"I'm thrilled to be working with this exceptional team to bring my father's short stories to life," said Isa Dick Hackett. "Often the source for big, high concept feature films, these short stories represent some of the most dazzling conceptual work of his career, and the fact that they will be adapted by such a diverse set of creative voices is truly an honour."

Also executive producing are James Degus (Sneaky Pete, SuperMansion), Isa Dick Hackett (The Adjustment Bureau, The Man in The High Castle), Kalen Egan (The Man in The High Castle), Christopher Tricarico (The Man in The High Castle), Maril Davis (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander), as well as David Kanter (The Revenant, The End of the Tour) and Matt DeRoss (upcoming Cinemax series Quarry, The End of the Tour).

The series was commissioned for Channel 4 by Jay Hunt, Piers Wenger and Simon Maxwell and will be made by Sony Pictures Television. Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis (Tall Ship Productions) are executive producing with Moore also serving as writer. Michael Dinner (Rooney McP Productions) is writing and executive producing. Also executive producing are Bryan Cranston and James Degus (Moonshot Entertainment), Isa Dick Hackett, Kalen Egan and Christopher Tricarico (Electric Shepherd Productions), as well as David Kanter and Matt DeRoss (Anonymous Content Entertainment).
