NBC NEWS' PEACOCK PRODUCTIONS SIGNS DENISE BROWN, SISTER OF NICOLE BROWN SIMPSON, TO DEVELOP NEW TRUE CRIME SERIES
NEW YORK - June 1, 2016 - NBC News' Peacock Productions has signed a deal with Denise Brown, sister of the late Nicole Brown Simpson whose death was at the center of the infamous O.J. Simpson murder trial, to develop a new true crime series. As part of the unscripted series, Brown and a team of experts will investigate all sides of the story in cases where justice has been called into question.
"Denise has experienced first-hand the complexities of the criminal justice system," said Melody Shafir, Vice President of Development for Peacock Productions. "She testified on behalf of her sister during one of the most high-profile murder trials in recent history and will draw on that experience throughout the series, with a deep understanding of the impact the system can have on the victim's family."
"Peacock Productions' expertise in the true-crime narrative and unscripted programming is unparalleled," said Denise Brown. "I am excited to begin working with Peacock and tell the stories of lives that have forever been changed by the criminal justice system."
Brown describes living a normal life until June 12, 1994, when her sister, Nicole Brown Simpson, was killed. This tragic incident resulted in her commitment to raising awareness against domestic violence. Since 1995, Brown has traveled the country speaking on the epidemic of domestic violence and is the founder and president of The Elite Speakers Bureau, which provides education on issues such as abuse, school and workplace safety, mental health and more.
As part of her commitment to educate the public and improve the quality of life for victims, Brown has worked to help pass a variety of legislative solutions for domestic violence and testified to the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee for increased funding for the Violence Against Women Act. She also assisted in the success of the Vine System, an automated victim notification service of the release of batterers from jail or prison. She is determined to end the stigma attached to domestic violence.
