MTV OPENS ITS' VAULT TO CELEBRATE THE 2016 "MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS" WITH A THROW BACK "MTV FIRSTS" THIRTY-MINUTE SPECIAL

Network Amps Up with Full Weekend of VMA-Themed Programming
New York, NY - August 19, 2016 - In celebration of the 2016 "MTV Video Music Awards," the network will open its' vault to viewers this weekend with an "MTV Firsts" special, highlighting the first times this year's nominees, including Beyonce, The Weeknd, Drake and more, appeared on the network on Saturday, August 20 at 4:50 p.m. ET/PT. The 2016 VMAs will air LIVE from New York's iconic Madison Square Garden on Sunday, August 28 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Additionally, MTV will air the fourth annual "VMA Weekend Brunch" hosted by pop star Daya, actress and singer Laura Marano, VMA nominees Alex and Jack from All Time Low, and Parris Goebel, director of Justin Bieber's nominated video "Sorry." The group will discuss everything VMAs from nominees, to unforgettable moments, upcoming performers and past red carpet fashions and fails. Hosts will attempt to learn some choreography to Justin Bieber's nominated video "Sorry" as instructed by director Parris Goebel. The brunch will air throughout the weekend on Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Immediately following from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET/PT, viewers knowledge of nominated VMA artists will be put to the test during every commercial break via "VMA Trivia Fest."
"MTV Firsts" will kick off the VMA-themed weekend and take viewers through major moments including Beyonce's first appearance on TRL with Destiny's Child in 1999, and Drake's debut VMA performance. Fans and talent will get to reminisce on these moments from the network's history and see how the artists have evolved over the years. The special will also include commentary from influencers and artists like Jermaine Dupree, MTV News Correspondents Gaby Wilson and Meredith Graves, Nathan Sykes, French Montana, Shaggy and more.
