"LAS CHICAS DEL CABLE", A NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES STARRING BLANCA SUÁREZ, NADIA DE SANTIAGO, ANA FERNÁNDEZ & MAGGIE CIVANTOS STARTS PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHY IN SPAIN

September 26th, 2016 - Netflix, the world's leading internet TV network, announced that principal photography begins today on its first Spanish original series, Las chicas del cable.

Created by Ramón Campos and Gema R. Neira, written by Ramón Campos, Gema R. Neira and María José Rustarazo and directed by Carlos Sedes and David Pinillos, Las chicas del cable starts production in Madrid today. Teresa Fernández-Valdés and Ramón Campos reunite as Executive Producers after acclaimed and successful shows Gran Hotel and Velvet.

The series is set to begin in Madrid during 1928. The national telephone company opens its headquarters in the city centre and hundreds of girls queue up to get a job as a "cable girl" in the only place that represents progress and modernity for women at the time. Four girls, coming from very different backgrounds, will start work as operators. From that day on, jealousy, envy and betrayal will get mixed up with the hunger for success, friendship and love.

The group of four is formed by Lidia (Blanca Suárez, El barco, El internado), Marga (Nadia de Santiago, Musarañas, Amar es para siempre), Carlota (Ana Fernández, Los protegidos) and Ángeles (Maggie Civantos, Vis a vis).

Other characters include Sara (Ana Polvorosa, Aída, Amar en tiempos revueltos), Francisco (Yon González, Gran Hotel, Perdiendo el norte), Carlos (Martiño Rivas, El internado, Tres bodas de más), Pablo (Nico Romero, Cita a ciegas), Miguel (Borja Luna, Isabel), Mario (Sergio Mur, Gran Reserva) and Doña Carmen, played by multi-award winning actress Concha Velasco (Bajo sospecha, Motivos personales, Teresa de Jesús).

Erik Barmack, Vice President of International original series at Netflix says "Netflix is thrilled to be starting production of our first Spanish original with such a talented cast and production team. We have full confidence that Teresa and Ramón, creators of international sensations Gran Hotel and Velvet, will create a story that's unique, moving and provocative."

Las chicas del cable will premiere globally on Netflix in 2017.
