CBS NEWS LAUNCHES NEW AMAZON FIRE TV AND ANDROID TV APPS

Redesign Highlights CBSN's Always-On Streaming News and 360-Degree Video Experience

Nov. 14, 2016 - Today CBS News launched new apps for Amazon Fire TV and Android TV, featuring a redesign that spotlights CBSN's always-on, original streaming news coverage. In addition, the apps offer 360-degree video playback, allowing users to control videos with their remote. Available at launch is an exclusive, 360-degree video of a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of a 60 MINUTES segment that takes viewers on a scenic journey to find gorillas in Africa.

"The new CBS News apps for Fire TV and Android TV combine our always-on, original live news coverage with a cutting-edge, interactive experience," said Nancy Lane, Senior Executive Producer, CBS News Digital.

The new apps' focus on live video ensures viewers never miss out on breaking news or the day's biggest stories. Viewers will have immediate access to CBSN's wide-ranging, anchored coverage and original reporting 24 hours a day for free. In addition to the live video, viewers can browse while watching to discover related videos, explore editorially curated video playlists, including a playlist for 360-degree videos, and create a personalized playlist of favorite videos.

CBSN continues to increase viewership, setting new records in every category on Tuesday, Nov. 8, for its coverage of Election Day. CBSN drew a record 19.1 million streams and 11.1 million unique viewers from midnight, ET on Nov. 8 through 4:00 AM, ET on Nov. 9. These viewership records build upon a momentous growth period for the service. CBSN set a new quarterly viewership record in the third quarter of 2016 with more than 60 million streams, and a new monthly viewership record in October with 27.2 million streams. Five of CBSN's top-10 days occurred during September and October. CBSN has consistently attracted viewers in key younger demos and the average age of CBSN viewers is 38.
