CATALINA (FOX, New!) - Max Winkler, Jake Johnson and Mary Fitzgerald are set to team for a single-camera comedy at the network about "a carefree party-girl bartender who has never left her home town on the island of Catalina, and who is forced to finally take on the responsibilities of adulthood after the death of her mother. With the help of her estranged politician father, she discovers that perhaps her true calling is to run for mayor of her eclectic island community." 20th Century Fox Television-based the Walcott Company is behind the half-hour with Winkler also attached to direct and executive produce alongside Johnson, Fitzgerald and Jason Carden. (Deadline.com)
PRISON BREAK: THE JOYCE MITCHELL STORY (Lifetime, New!) - Penelope Ann Miller is set to star in the network's latest docudrama "inspired by the infamous 2015 jailbreak in upstate New York pulled off by convicted murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat that launched a 21-day manhunt for the pair." Stephen Tolkin will write and direct the Mountainair Films project, in which Miller will play Joyce Mitchell, "the married mother of three who met Matt (Myk Watford) and Sweat (Joe Anderson) while running the tailor shop at the Clinton Correctional Facility. In real life, the cons seduced Mitchell, and, thinking the men were in love with her, she agreed to help them break out, supplying tools and agreeing to pick them up on the outside after the escape." Judith Verno and Frank Von Zerneck are executive producing with David Manzanares as a co-producer and Ron Schmidt as the line producer. (Deadline.com)
PURE GENIUS (CBS) - The Eye has decided against ordering additional episodes of the medical drama. The series will instead wrap its freshman run after 13 episodes and remain under consideration for a second season. (Deadline.com)
STRANGE NEW THINGS (Amazon) - Anil Kapoor (Slumdog Millionaire) is the latest addition to the drama pilot as Vikram Danesh, "the authoritative head of the base on Oasis." Richard Madden and Haley Joel Osment also star. (Deadline.com)
TIMELESS (NBC) - Michael Drayer ("Mr. Robot") has been cast as Harry Houdini in an upcoming episode of the freshman drama. (TVLine.com)
