TOM BROKAW TO NARRATE DISCOVERY'S RANCHER, FARMER, FISHERMAN

An Official Selection of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival

Directed by Emmy(R)-Winning Filmmakers Susan Froemke and John Hoffman

Emmy(R) and Peabody Award-winning journalist Tom Brokaw will lend his voice to Discovery Channel's RANCHER, FARMER, FISHERMAN. The feature documentary will have its world premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and will air on the network as part of the Discovery Impact banner in 3rd quarter 2017.

Debuting in the prestigious Documentary Premieres Section at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, RANCHER, FARMER, FISHERMAN weaves together the stories of four unlikely conservation heroes working in America's heartland. At a moment when it seems that collaboration is not just nonexistent but impossible, these working families cross political and other divides to arrive at real solutions for protecting the land and sea that define our country - and are crucial to all of our survival. From the Montana Rockies to the fields of Kansas to the Gulf of Mexico, RANCHER, FARMER, FISHERMAN showcases the successes of a new crop of conservation heroes. RANCHER, FARMER, FISHERMAN will premiere as part of Discovery Impact, a slate of groundbreaking documentaries focusing on humankind's impact on the environment and what individuals and society as a whole can do to solve some of the largest problems facing the planet. Narrated by award-winning journalist Brokaw, and directed by Emmy(R)-winning and Oscar-nominated Froemke and Emmy(R)-winning filmmaker Hoffman, the film is based on Miriam Horn's recently released book, "Rancher, Farmer, Fisherman: Conservation Heroes of the American Heartland." (Norton, Sept. 2016)

"RANCHER, FARMER FISHERMAN captures the spirit of what Discovery stands for. It highlights the journey of these unheralded heroes who feed America and the world and whom we literally can't live without," comments Rich Ross, Group President, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Science Channel. "When John Hoffman came to Discovery to head up Docs and Specials for us, we talked about all he had been working on, and I knew Discovery was the perfect home for this film."

"We could not pick a more perfect setting than Sundance to premiere RANCHER, FARMER, FISHERMAN," say Froemke and Hoffman. "And with the newly launched NEW CLIMATE sub-section, the timing could not be better either. We are humbled to be part of this festival that puts environmental issues at the forefront of its efforts and greatly anticipate the opportunity to use its unrivaled platform to launch into the world the story of these unassuming but passionate conservationists and the work they are doing to save our nation's natural resources."

Discovery Channel presents RANCHER, FARMER, FISHERMAN, directed by Susan Froemke and John Hoffman; co-director, Beth Aala; produced by Beth Aala; producers, Susan Froemke, Miriam Horn; narrated by Tom Brokaw; executive producers John Hoffman, Dyllan McGee; co-producers, Alexandra Moss, Jon Bardin; story editor, Deborah Dickson; writer, Jack Youngelson; edited by Kathleen Dougherty, Flavia De Souza, Jen Fineran; supervising producer, Deborah Clancy Porfido; cinematography Bob Richman, Buddy Squires, Thorsten Thielow; sound Peter Miller, Roger Phenix; original score by Nathan Halpern; animation by Molly Schwartz.
