MTV PRESENTS "AN INCONVENIENT SPECIAL" TOWN HALL ON CLIMATE CHANGE HOSTED BY FORMER VICE PRESIDENT AL GORE

Special To Also Feature Fat Joe and Steve Aoki Wednesday, August 2nd at 7:30PM ET/PT

New York, NY - Monday, July 24 - MTV will present, "An Inconvenient Special," a town hall forum to amplify young people's voices on the topic of climate change on Wednesday, August 2nd at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT. The special will be hosted by former Vice President Al Gore in connection with his upcoming film, "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power." Viacom Networks will also help bring awareness to the issue by declaring the week of July 31st as, "An Inconvenient Week," with social, digital and on-air support across 10 channels including MTV, VH1, LOGO, Comedy Central, Spike, BET, CMT, TV Land, Nick@Nite, and Teen Nick.

In a February 2017 study among MTV viewers aged 16 to 26, the network discovered that 70 percent of viewers are worried about environmental protections under the Trump administration.*

"Young people are one of the greatest reasons for hope that we can and will solve the climate crisis, and I am thrilled to participate in 'An Inconvenient Special' to listen to their ideas, hopes, and concerns, as well as learn about some of their amazing work on behalf of the planet," said former Vice President Al Gore. "Young people today are creative, open-minded, empathetic, and they understand the enormous impact the climate crisis will have on them and their families. They're ready to make a change and put us on the path to a sustainable future, and I have no doubt in my mind they will be the generation to do it."

"Our audience is passionate about the environment and the issue of climate change, so it's important we share our platforms to amplify their voices," said Amy Doyle, General Manager of MTV, VH1 and Logo. "We are honored to have former Vice President Al Gore lead our Town Hall to continue the important dialogue around climate change."

Led by former Vice President Al Gore, the half-hour town hall will be held in MTV's Times Square studio filled with young people in the audience to have an open and honest conversation about climate change. MTV News Correspondent Gaby Wilson will serve as moderator, Grammy-nominated DJ and producer Steve Aoki will be the celebrity correspondent, and in-studio guests will include influential rapper Fat Joe and 17-year-old climate change activist from Miami, Delaney Reynolds.

The special will feature a field piece with Fat Joe meeting Delaney Reynolds in Miami to speak out on the rising sea levels in the city. The pair will address the environmental issues already taking place and affecting the people of Miami, as well as what Delaney is doing to bring awareness in her community. Miami-native Steve Aoki will help guide the studio audience through a discussion on the topic.

Additionally, Viacom Networks will be declaring the entire week of July 31st as "An Inconvenient Week" with support across 10 channels including MTV, VH1, LOGO, Comedy Central, Spike, BET, CMT, TV Land, Nick@Nite, and Teen Nick.

"Climate change continues to be a significant global issue and one that clearly resonates with our young audience," said Danielle Kupchak, SVP Marketing and Branded Content, Viacom Velocity. "The Viacom Portfolio is happy to rally behind this important subject. We hope that our collective efforts in this linear, digital, mobile and social campaign will help bring awareness to the importance of renewable energy and the issues raised in Paramount's and Al Gore's film 'An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power.'"

"An Inconvenient Special" will also simulcast on Logo. BET will air the special on Wednesday, August 2nd at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT and VH1 will air it on Friday, August 4th at 5pm. Outside of the U.S., MTV will debut content from the special across its digital platforms.
