BLACK-ISH (ABC) - Courtney Lilly and Peter Saji, both co-executive producers on the series, have inked overall deals with ABC Studios. (Deadline.com)
BROKEN RECORD (ABC, New!) - Singer/songwriter Meghan Trainor has scored a put pilot commitment from the Alphabet for a new drama from The Mark Gordon Company about The Candies, "the superstar girl group who, on the nine-year anniversary of their breakup, are forced to reunite for an unexpected encore after a tragic event brings them back together." Jenni Ross is penning the script, based on an idea by Danny Rose and Justin Sylvester, with Trainor, Rose and Creative Engine Entertainment's Drew Comins likewise executive producing. Sylvester will receive a co-executive producer credit. (THR.com)
EMPIRE (FOX) - Teyonah Parris will recur on the series as Pamela Rose, "a New York police detective investigating the attempted murder of Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard). Rose is a beguiling, sensual beauty who is quick to blur the line between personal and professional upon her first encounter with one of the Lyons." (Deadline.com)
FIRST, THE (Hulu) - Natascha McElhone ("Designated Survivor") has signed onto the Sean Penn-led drama as "the visionary British CEO of the company behind the mission to Mars." Said role presumably spells the end of her involvement on the ABC drama, however no specifics were given. (Deadline.com)
HERE COMES THE NEIGHBORHOOD (CBS, New!) - Jim Reynolds ("The Big Bang Theory") has scored a pilot production commitment from the Eye for a new multi-camera comedy about "the nicest guy in the Midwest who moves his family into a tough neighborhood in L.A. where not everyone appreciates his extreme neighborliness." Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor as well as Trill Television's Wendi Trilling will likewise executive produce for CBS Television Studios. (Deadline.com)
MIST, THE (Spike TV) - The cable channel has passed on a second season for the drama. The series wrapped its freshman run on August 24 to 832,000 viewers in Live+3 (332,000 adults 18-49). The newcomer launched on June 22 to 1.273 million viewers in Live+3 (527,000 adults 18-49). (THR.com)
PARTY OF FIVE (New!) - A reboot of Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman's 1990s staple is reportedly being developed by Sony Pictures Television. Keyser and Lippman are behind the project, which is said to have "an immigration twist." No network is currently attached. (THR.com)
SILICON BEACH (FOX, New!) - Brian Young ("The Vampire Diaries") has sold a potential drama to the network about 26-year-old Maya Carter "who lives at home with her family and is someone you'd never guess has the potential to change the world. Then again, you're not billionaire Alex Silva, the amoral venture capitalist who plucks her from her modest life so she can do just that. Surrounded by unimaginable wealth and opportunity, Maya fights to make her mark and keep her soul in the cutthroat world of tech startups, and she does it all bathed in the warm glow of the California sun, steps from the clear blue waters of the Pacific, in the place where millennial ambitions are rewarded with overnight millions: Silicon Beach." McG and Mary Viola of Wonderland Sound and Vision will also executive produce the 20th Century Fox Television-based project, which has a penalty attached. (Deadline.com)
STAR (FOX) - Elijah Kelley has snagged a recurring role on the current season as Andy, "a Harvard graduate who has worked all his life to pursue his dreams in the music industry. He's knowledgeable and driven, but his charisma is what Ayanna Floyd (Michael Michele), the CEO of Midtown Sound, relies on to help her put her new label on the map. What she doesn't know is that Andy's impressive vocal talents may play a part in accomplishing her goal." (Deadline.com)
TAKE IT FROM THE TOP (FOX, New!) - Joe Wilson and Abdul Williams have set up a new drama at the network inspired by the life of top choreographer Fatima Robinson. The project, set in 1990s Los Angeles, "follows Fatima and her crew as she rises in this exploding new world set against her stifling family obligations and personal life." Universal Television is behind the hour, which has a penalty attached. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron of Zadan/Meron Productions will executive produce alongside Wilson with Robinson, Williams and Mark Nicholson as co-executive producers. (Deadline.com)
