Netflix Announces New Original Documentary Series Launching Winter/Spring 2018

Titles Include Ugly Delicious, Flint Town, Wild Wild Country and a New Series in Partnership with Vox Entertainment

LOS ANGELES, CA - Fri., Jan. 19, 2018 - Netflix announced four new original documentary series, covering a wide range of topics from food and true crime to pop culture. Titles include Ugly Delicious (February 23) featuring chef David Chang as he travels the world using food to create connections across cultures; Flint Town (March 2), an intimate look at the state of policing in America through the lens of the Flint, Mich. Police Department; Wild Wild Country (March 16), a true-crime look at a controversial guru's creation of an Oregonian utopia and the unrest that follows; and new untitled series in partnership with Vox Entertainment (Summer 2018) covering a wide range of social and economic topics.

"We aspire to always delight our global audience, and key to this is to continually create a deep and diverse set of shows across a vast array of subjects, and these upcoming series are a perfect example," said Lisa Nishimura, vice president, original documentary programming. "Whether you want a fresh, fun and irreverent take on global cuisine, wish to explore one of the most bizarre cult crimes on record, sit shotgun with one of America's grittiest police forces or take a deeper dive into the world of science, pop culture, history & politics - there is something for everyone."

Additional information on each series is below.

UGLY DELICIOUS

Launches February 23

From James Beard Award-Winning Chef David Chang and Academy Award-Winning Director Morgan Neville comes Ugly Delicious, challenging both our taste buds and minds. Over eight episodes, David travels the world with writers and chefs, activists and artists, who use food as a vehicle to break down cultural barriers, tackle misconceptions and uncover shared experiences. Ugly Delicious ventures out of polished kitchens into the wider world to explore Viet-Cajun cuisine in Houston, Neapolitan Pizza in Tokyo, home cooking in Copenhagen, and much more.

FLINT TOWN

Launches March 2

In the aftermath of the Flint water crisis, Flint Town takes an intimate look at the state of policing in America through the lens of the Flint Police Department. Flint, Mich. is consistently named one of the most violent cities in America and the community is still grappling with the coverup of a citywide water contamination, leading to a massive distrust in law enforcement officials. Over the course of eight episodes, filmmakers embed with the police officers faced with infrastructure issues and decreasing resources as they risk their lives to protect and serve the community, while simultaneously struggling to gain their support. Flint Town is produced in association with Anonymous Content; executive producers are Steve Golin, David Pritikin and P.G. Morgan; co-directors are Zackary Canepari, Jessica Dimmock and Drea Cooper.

WILD WILD COUNTRY

Launches March 16; Premiering at 2018 Sundance Film Festival

When the world's most controversial guru builds a utopian city in the Oregon desert, a massive conflict with local ranchers ensues; producing the first bioterror attack in US history, the largest case of illegal wiretapping ever recorded, and the world's biggest collection of Rolls-Royce automobiles. Over six episodes, Directors Chapman Way and Maclain Way (The Battered Bastards of Baseball) and executive producers Mark and Jay Duplass (Duplass Brothers Productions) take viewers back to this pivotal, yet largely forgotten moment in American cultural history, one in which our national tolerance for the separation of church and state was sorely tested. Wild Wild Country is historical filmmaking brought to life on an epic scale. It's a tale so wild that seeing means barely believing.

Untitled Project in Partnership with Vox Entertainment

Launches Summer 2018

In partnership with Vox Entertainment, this series will explore a wide range of global topics and take on the big "why" questions that animate our age. Each episode will pull a different subject from the zeitgeist, from politics to science to pop culture, and give the bigger picture story -- featuring interviews with some of the most authoritative experts in their respective fields. Ezra Klein, Vox co-founder and editor-at-large, will serve as an executive producer; along with Joe Posner, Vox's executive producer; and showrunner Claire Gordon.
