|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
BOYS, THE (Amazon) - Karl Urban is set to topline the comic book-turned-drama series as Billy Butcher: "Mysterious, brutal and with a personal but secret agenda, Billy Butcher approaches Hughie (co-lead Jack Quaid), claiming to be a shadowy government operative. Butcher capitalizes on Hughie's rage over his girlfriend Robin's accidental death at the hands of superhero A-Train (Jesse T. Usher) and enlists Hughie as part of his plan to bring down the Superhero franchise." (Deadline.com)
CHICAGO PD (NBC) - Executive producer Rick Eid has signed a new two-year overall deal with Universal TV. The pact will cover his duties as showrunner on the veteran drama as well as presumably any future development. (Deadline.com)
FIRST WIVES CLUB (Paramount) - Tracy Oliver's small screen take on the 1996 film has been ordered to pilot by the cable channel. The series, like the film, will be based on New York City. It will follow a group of women who band together after their marriages fall apart, and who find strength in their sisterhood - and of course a little revenge. Sibling network TV Land previously took a stab at the project in 2016 with Alyson Hannigan, Megan Hilty and Vanessa Lachey in the lead roles. (Deadline.com)
FORTE (FOX, New!) - Justin Lo is developing a domestic take on Andrés Gelós's Fox International Channels' drama "Cumbia Ninja," "set in mystical Miami where magical beings have lived secretly among humans for decades. Two rival nightclubs set the stage for this Latin soap that will explore our fractured American society through tales of unrequited love, the perils of greed and, above all, the power of música." Propagate's Ben Silverman and Sean Canino as well as Roselyn Sanchez and Eric Winter are also on board to executive produce for 20th Century Fox TV and FX International. (Deadline.com)
HIDDEN FIGURES (NGC, New!) - Chernin Entertainment is looking to bring Margot Lee Shetterly's book-turned-film, "which told the true story of the black female mathematicians who were instrumental in the early days of the American space program," to the small screen at the cable channel. The company's Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping will executive produce the potential hour. No writing auspices were given. (Variety.com)
HIGH FIDELITY (Disney OTT, New!) - Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka have set up a gender-swapped take on the 2000 feature film, about "a record store owner - a female take on the character played in the movie by John Cusack - talking straight to the camera as she chronicles past relationships." ABC Signature is behind the project with Midnight Radio's Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg - the latter of which co-wrote the feature - also serving as executive producers. (Deadline.com)
UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT (Netflix) - Busy Philipps will drop by the upcoming fourth season in a yet-to-be-revealed role. (TVLine.com)
