National Geographic Announces Season Two of Original Digital Series "Wild Life with Bertie Gregory"

All Five Episodes of Wild Life with Bertie Gregory: Resurrection Island Are Available Starting Today, World Animal Day, at natgeo.com/wildlife

(WASHINGTON - OCT. 4, 2018) National Geographic announced today that its original digital series Wild Life with Bertie Gregory has returned for a second season, available now at natgeo.com/wildlife. The new season, titled Wild Life with Bertie Gregory: Resurrection Island, will also be released weekly across National Geographic's YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat channels, where audiences can watch full, platform-native episodes, additional content and behind-the-scenes exclusives.

Wild Life with Bertie Gregory: Resurrection Island follows 25-year-old National Geographic wildlife filmmaker Bertie Gregory (@bertiegregory) on his journey to one of the most remote and spectacular wildlife destinations in the world - iconic South Georgia Island. Join Gregory as he gets up close and personal with some of its remarkable inhabitants, such as macaroni penguins, fur seals, wandering albatrosses and more. This sub-Antarctic island is teeming with one of the highest concentrations of wildlife on the planet, but that wasn't always the case. The island was once the scene of one of the worst wildlife massacres in history, as the hub of one of the world's busiest whaling stations. Discover how, when given the chance, wildlife can bounce back from a long history of human destruction.

The series serves as the latest example of National Geographic's expanding portfolio of engaging, premium digital content that will be published and promoted across all platforms, including a special broadcast premiere on Nat Geo WILD. Following the launch of this new season of Wild Life, National Geographic will also premiere a second season of digital series Untamed with Filipe DeAndrade later this year. Untamed: Costa Rica follows DeAndrade and his friends as they venture to the biodiverse ecosystems of Costa Rica - a place of breathtaking landscapes, exotic species and pristine coastlines - to tell stories of local wildlife that are almost too beautiful to believe.

"I'm really excited to be able to show both the unparalleled beauty and resilience of South Georgia Island," said Gregory. "In a world of doom and gloom news, this is a hopeful example of how wildlife can bounce back from devastation. It's important now more than ever to demonstrate the value of our environment and wild places. I hope this series inspires people to apply this thinking to other areas of the world."

"This new season of Wild Life is a perfect example of our strategy for giving our audiences visual, purpose-driven stories that showcase the beauty of our planet, on whatever channels they choose to engage us on, and our commitment to inspiring them to explore, care for and better understand it," said Jonathan Hunt, senior vice president of digital strategy for National Geographic Partners. "Wild Life is a perfect example of how an original series filmed by a young, talented storyteller can innovate the natural history genre across both digital and traditional channels."

Following the launch of Wild Life with Bertie Gregory: Resurrection Island across National Geographic's digital platforms, a one-hour version of the season will premiere on television on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 10/9c on Nat Geo WILD.

Do you think you have what it takes to join a National Geographic team member on his or her next wildlife adventure? In celebration of the new season of Wild Life, National Geographic Society has partnered with Omaze on a "donate to win" sweepstakes for a lucky viewer to join Gregory on a 19-day expedition to South Georgia and the Falklands, where the winner will travel aboard the National Geographic Explorer to the spectacular isles of the South Atlantic. This trip of a lifetime includes activities such as one-on-one photography instruction from Gregory, kayaking among the curious fur seals in the Falklands and sailing in a catamaran amid the islands of the Beagle Channel to witness the amazing wildlife along the way. Donations will support National Geographic's work to help save wildlife, protect wild places on land and in the ocean, preserve our ancient heritage for future generations and empower the world's most innovative scientists and explorers to help find solutions to the planet's critical challenges. For more information on how to enter, visit natgeo.com/wildlife.

Episodes Include:

Wild Life with Bertie Gregory: Resurrection Island: Fur Seals

Ultimate cuteness and horrific brutality might seem like strange phrases to pair when describing one species, but they perfectly describe the Antarctic fur seal. Five-hundred-pound bulls must fight to the death for breeding rights, while single seal moms struggle to raise their pups - surely the most adorable creatures on the planet.

Wild Life with Bertie Gregory: Resurrection Island: Macaroni Penguins

What macaroni penguins lack in size, they make up for in sass. Life in the Antarctic doesn't come easy for these bright yellow-crowned bundles of attitude. In this episode, Bertie joins them in the freezing ocean to swim with the adults in crashing waves. Bertie also witnesses an incredibly rare predatory event that shows how these penguins must use all their boldness to survive.

Wild Life with Bertie Gregory: Resurrection Island: Albatrosses

At over 11 feet, the wandering albatross has the biggest wingspan of any bird on the planet. One of these birds can fly millions of miles during a lifetime, but they don't live a solitary existence; they are masters of the long-distance relationship. Bertie watches as an old albatross couple reunites alongside a pair of flirty teenagers on a bizarre first date.

Wild Life with Bertie Gregory: Resurrection Island: King Penguins

South Georgia's St. Andrews Bay is home to the busiest beach on the planet, where 400,000 king penguins have converged to raise the next generation. The peaceful snow-capped mountain backdrop is misleading - life in this city is far from simple. Bertie learns that chicks going crazy and dodging an 8,000-pound predator is all part of the carnage.

Wild Life with Bertie Gregory: Resurrection Island: The Journey

The crew sailed through some of the roughest ocean to reach the island of South Georgia in the South Atlantic Ocean. This episode combines this crazy adventure with fascinating history and asks some big questions. From the era that spans Captain Cook's discovery to the haunting whaling settlements, to the island's ultimate rebound, are we giving our wild places a second chance?

Wild Life with Bertie Gregory: Resurrection Island was produced in partnership with The FRONT, a by-women-for-everyone studio responsible for development and production. Executive Producer, Thalia Mavros.
