Fremantle partners with Hulu to premiere Butterfly in the U.S.

Fremantle has teamed up with premium U.S. streaming service Hulu to bring the powerful new drama Butterfly to U.S. audiences. Created and penned by BAFTA award-winning screenwriter Tony Marchant and starring International Emmy award-winning actress Anna Friel (Marcella, Broken), the emotional 3 x 60' series will make its debut in the U.S. Hulu on 18th January 2019.

Produced by RED Production Company, Butterfly is a heartfelt and sensitive drama about the complex relationship between separated parents, Vicky (Anna Friel) and Stephen (Emmett J. Scanlan), and their division in opinion over how to support their youngest child, Max (Callum Booth-Ford). From a young age, Max has identified as a girl but has tried to suppress these feelings in an attempt to earn Stephen's approval.

The mini-series premiered on ITV (UK) in October and attracted critical acclaim from the media. The Independent said it was an "incredibly affecting drama" and The Guardian referred to it as "truthful, beautiful and powerful stuff".

Commenting on the deal, Caroline Kusser, SVP, Distribution US, International, Fremantle said, "We are pleased to be working with Hulu to bring this powerful drama to US audiences. Butterfly is a beautiful story that addresses sensitive, contemporary issues and features outstanding performances from a brilliant cast, including the award-winning actress Anna Friel. It's the perfect addition to Hulu's extensive catalogue of quality programming."
