DEFENDING JACOB (Apple TV+) - The Chris Evans-led limited series has rounded out its principal cast with Cherry Jones as Joanna Klein, "a top defense lawyer in the area"; Pablo Schreiber as Neal Logiudice, "another Assistant District Attorney and colleague of Andy Barber's (Evans)"; Betty Gabriel as Paula Duffy, "a detective who works alongside Andy Barber"; and Sakina Jaffrey as County District Attorney Lynn Canavan. Michelle Dockery and Jaeden Martell also star in the project, which is based on William Landay's bestselling novel. (Deadline.com)
GENTEFIED (Netflix) - Karrie Martin, J.J. Soria, Carlos Santos and Joaquin Cosio are the first to be cast in the upcoming 10-episode comedy series, about three Mexican-American cousins set in a rapidly changing Los Angeles. Martin will play Ana Morales, "a sarcastic, woke, blunt, and endearing, queer artist"; with Soria as Erik, "a wisecracking, well-read, charismatic, but tough homie with a heart of gold"; Santos as Chris, "the prodigal grandson, a fun-loving, know-it-all, chef-in-training"; and Cosio is Pop, "a hard-working, stoic, but warm, old-fashioned ranchero and the rock of the Morales family." UNTITLED NANCY DREW PROJECT (The CW) - Pamela Sue Martin, who played Nancy Drew in the 1977-79 series "The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries," has been cast in the updated take's pilot as Harriet Grosset, "a small-town psychic who offers her talents to help Nancy (Kennedy McMann) investigate a murder - and ends up delivering an otherworldly clue that neither of them bargained for." WESTWORLD (HBO) - Co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have reportedly signed a massive five-year, nine-figure overall deal with Amazon Studios. The pact covers all future output from the husband-and-wife duo's Kilter Films, which had previously been set up at Warner Bros. Television. Nolan and Joy however will continue to executive produce "Westworld" as well as "The Peripheral," a small screen take on William Gibson's novel for Warner Bros. and Amazon. (Deadline.com)
WHY WOMEN KILL (CBSAA) - Katie Finneran is the latest bound for Marc Cherry's upcoming drama as Naomi, "seen in 1982. Upscale, brash and fun, she is one of Simone's (Lucy Liu) friends and Tommy's (Leo Howard) mother. Effusive, she is a cheerful widow, left six million when her husband died, which she claims was "pretty nice." (Deadline.com)
