Development Update: Tuesday, May 28
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

13 REASONS WHY/MANIAC/THE OA (Netflix) - Executive producer Michael Sugar has signed a multi-year overall deal with the streaming service. The pact gives Netflix exclusive access to all of his Sugar23 banner's scripted output as well as a first look for unscripted series. (Deadline.com)
DYNASTY (The CW) - Co-executive producer Josh Reims has been promoted to showrunner for the show's third season. He'll take over from Sallie Patrick, who will remain as an executive producer but focus on development via her overall deal with CBS Television Studios. (@monkeyforsallie, 5/25)
PATRIOT ACT WITH HASAN MINHAJ (Netflix) - Jim Margolis will step down as showrunner after the current third cycle of episodes wraps on June 16. He'll be succeeded by Steve Bodow ("The Daily Show") going forward on the series, which has a 32-episode order. (Deadline.com)
PEEP SHOW (FX, New!) - FX is the latest network to take a stab at importing Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain's U.K. comedy, which followed the private worlds of Mark (David Mitchell) and Jeremy (Robert Webb), two twenty-something room-mates living in London as the dysfunctional duo try in vain to grow up. Karey Dornetto is behind the new gender-flipped take, which has a script commitment. The news marks the fourth such effort at an U.S. incarnation: FOX previously shot a pilot in 2005 with Johnny Galecki and Josh Meyers in the lead roles; as did Spike TV in 2008 with Brad Morris and Rob Chester Smith co-starring; and Eli Jorne was behind a 2016 take for Starz which didn't move past the script stage. (Deadline.com, 5/26)
SWAMP THING (DC Universe) - Michael Beach will recur on the upcoming original series as Nathan Ellery, "a no-nonsense businessman with a ruthless streak. Ellery presents as the polished CEO of a legitimate venture capital firm, but his smooth corporate veneer hides his willingness to resort to extreme measures to achieve his goals." (Deadline.com)
WILDS, THE (Amazon) - Sarah Streicher's young adult drama pilot - about a group of teenage girls from radically different backgrounds who find themselves stranded on a remote island, unaware that they've just become the subjects of an elaborate social experiment - has been ordered to series by the streaming service. In addition, Amy B. Harris has been tapped as showrunner of the project, a co-production of ABC Signature and Amazon Studios. Jamie Tarses, Dylan Clark, Brian Williams and director Susanna Fogel also serve as executive producers. (Deadline.com)
