Beverly Hills, Calif. - July 26, 2019 - Starz, a Lionsgate company (NYSE: LGF.A, LGF.B), announced today at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Summer 2019 Press Tour three new STARZ Original series including a third installment of Steven Soderbergh's critically-acclaimed limited series "The Girlfriend Experience," the new original drama series "Dangerous Liaisons," produced by Playground and Flame Ventures in association with Lionsgate Television and the true-crime docu-series "Leavenworth" from Executive Producer Steven Soderbergh.

Jeffrey Hirsch, STARZ Chief Operating Officer, who made the announcements during his executive session also confirmed that "Leavenworth" will premiere on STARZ on October 20, 2019.

Please see below for more information on each new series.

"The Girlfriend Experience"

"The Girlfriend Experience" third season is set amidst the London tech scene where a young female neuroscientist begins to explore the transactional world of The Girlfriend Experience, only to find herself deep inside the Uncanny Valley with the relationships she creates.

Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven, Magic Mike, "The Knick") and Fleishman return as executive producers with Jeff Cuban serving as executive producer. Written and directed by Anja Marquardt (She's Lost Control) who also serves as co-executive producer, the 10-episode scripted anthology series is a Transactional Pictures of NY LP Production in Association with Populist Pictures and Magnolia Pictures.

The STARZ Limited series "The Girlfriend Experience" was a reimagining of Steven Soderbergh's 2009 critically acclaimed movie of the same name. Season one of "The Girlfriend Experience" followed Christine Reade (Riley Keough), a second-year law student. Working hard to establish herself as an intern at a prestigious law firm, her focus quickly shifts when a classmate introduces her to the world of transactional relationships. The second season of the anthology series followed two parallel stories each focusing on entirely new characters, relationships, plotlines and locations while exploring the price of intimacy and its emotional consequences. Starring Anna Friel, Louisa Krause and Carmen Ejogo, the storylines for season two were juxtaposed between Washington, D.C. and New Mexico.

Vice President of Original Programming Samantha Offsay is the Starz executive in charge of the third season of "The Girlfriend Experience."

"Dangerous Liaisons"

Inspired by the novel of the same name, the STARZ Original series "Dangerous Liaisons" tells the origin story of the early years of the iconic characters Merteuil and Valmont when they meet as passionate young lovers in the slums of 18th century Paris.

Written and reimagined by Harriet Warner ("Tell Me Your Secrets", "Call the Midwife"), who also serves as executive producer and showrunner, this is "Dangerous Liaisons" for a 21st century audience told from the perspective of Merteuil, informed by her line from the novel: "Born to avenge my sex and conquer yours, I have succeeded in inventing strategies for doing so that before me had never been conceived." Thrilling, sexy and provocative, this story of seduction and betrayal follows the dangerous liaisons of the rich and powerful in the court of Louis VXI, as they wreak havoc on society, and each other along the way.

The series is executive produced by Playground's Colin Callender ("Wolf Hall," "Howards End"), Tony Krantz ("24," "Blood & Oil"), Bethan Jones ("Les Misérables," "Sherlock") Scott Huff (STARZ Original series "The Spanish Princess," "The Missing"), and Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons, Atonement). Coline Abert ("Les Revenants"), James Dormer ("Medici") and Rita Kalnejais (Babyteeth) will also write for the series.

"Dangerous Liaisons" will be available on STARZ in the U.S. and Canada, as well as on the STARZPLAY international streaming service via the Apple TV app in Europe and Latin America. The eight episode season will also be available locally on STARZPLAY in the UK via Prime Video Channels and Virgin Media; Germany and France via Prime Video Channels; and in Spain via Vodafone and Orange TV.

Senior Vice Presidents of Original Programming Kathryn Tyus-Adair and Karen Bailey are the Starz executives in charge of production.

"Leavenworth"

The STARZ Original docu-series "Leavenworth" from executive producers Paul Pawlowski, David Check, and Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven, Magic Mike, "The Knick"), centers on a controversial true-crime story playing out in the military justice system. Clint Lorance is serving a 19-year sentence for murder at The United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth. While deployed in Afghanistan in July 2012, the former lieutenant ordered fire on three local men riding a motorcycle, killing two of them and outraging his platoon. In a first-hand account of a soldier navigating the US Army's legal system, Lorance seeks to overturn his conviction, provoking emotional debate between supporters and detractors that rises to the national stage. As determinations on Lorance's fate unfold, questions probe not only the merits of his conviction, but analyze the system at large and ultimately test the balance of guilt and innocence in the inscrutable circumstances of today's wars.

Senior Vice President, Head of Unscripted Programming, Alice Dickens-Koblin and Senior Vice President, Original Programming Susan Lewis are the Starz executives in charge of production.
