CUSTOM OF THE COUNTRY, THE (Apple TV+, New!) - Sofia Coppola is looking to write and direct a limited series at the company based on Edith Wharton's classic novel, which "follows a Midwestern girl who attempts to ascend in New York City society. Having encouraged her parents to relocate to New York, Undine Spragg subsequently marries Ralph Marvell, a member of an old New York family with status but little money, before spending the rest of the book looking to trade up her husbands, cheating, neglecting her young son and even blackmail." Scarlett Johansson was attached to star in a previous incarnation for Sony Pictures Television in 2014. (Deadline.com)
GREEN ARROW & THE CANARIES/UNTITLED 100 PREQUEL, THE (The CW) - The future of both projects - filmed as backdoor pilots of their parent series - remains to be determined. (Deadline.com)
HEAD OF THE CLASS (HBO Max, New!) - Amy Pocha and Seth Cohen are spearheading a reboot of the 1986-1991 series which "revolves around a group of overachieving high school students who meet their greatest challenge - a teacher who wants them to focus less on grades and more on experiencing life." The multi-camera project has an order for a pilot and five additional scripts. Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley and Doozer Productions' Bill Lawrence and Jeff Ingold will also executive produce for Warner Horizon Television with Liza Katzer as a co-executive producer. (Deadline.com)
KUNG FU (The CW) - The Olivia Liang-led reboot of Ed Spielman's series has been given a straight-to-series order. Television-based project with Martin Gero, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden as well as writer Christina M. Kim executive producing. Director Hanelle Culpepper also serves as a co-executive producer. Its logline is as follows: "A quarter-life crisis causes a young Chinese-American woman to drop out of college and go on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. But when she returns to find her hometown overrun with crime and corruption, she uses her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community and bring criminals to justice... all while searching for the assassin who killed her Shaolin mentor and is now targeting her." (Deadline.com)
LAST NARC, THE (Amazon) - The streaming service has postponed the debut of the four-part docuseries as production could not be completed in time for its previously announced May 15 premiere. No new date was given.
LOST BOYS, THE/MAVERICK (The CW) - The network has rolled the development of both projects to next season. Filming on their pilots was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It's not clear if options on the roles that were cast will be extended. (Deadline.com)
MANDALORIAN, THE (Disney+) - Katee Sackhoff will guest on the series as Bo-Katan Kryze, a role for which she provided the voice on both "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars Rebels." (SlashFilm.com)
REPUBLIC OF SARAH, THE (The CW) - The Stella Baker-led drama has likewise been given a straight-to-series order. Nia Holloway, Luke Mitchell, Izabella Alvarez, Hope Lauren, Ian Duff, Forrest Goodluck, Landry Bender and Megan Follows also star in the CBS Television Studios-based project with Jeff Grosvenor, Leo Pearlman, Marc Webb, Mark Martin, writer Jeffrey Paul King and director Kat Candler among the executive producers. Its logline is as follows: "Faced with the destruction of her town at the hands of a greedy mining company, rebellious high school teacher Sarah Cooper utilizes an obscure cartographical loophole to declare independence. Now Sarah must lead a young group of misfits as they attempt to start their own country from scratch." (Deadline.com)
SUPERMAN & LOIS (The CW) - Wolé Parks is the latest addition to the straight-to-series DC Comics drama as The Stranger, "a mysterious visitor hellbent on proving to the world that it no longer needs Superman." (Deadline.com)
