BEL-AIR (New!) - Will Smith is attached to executive produce an hourlong dramatic take on his 1990s series "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," which "will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases of what it means to be a Black man in America today, while still delivering the swagger and fun nods to the original show." The project, currently making the streaming rounds, was spawned from Morgan Cooper's popular fan film. Cooper and Chris Collins are co-writing the potential series with Cooper returning to direct and co-executive produce. Collins, Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are the executive producers for Westbrook Studios and Universal Television. (Deadline.com)
HATER, THE (HBO, New!) - The pay channel is developing a small screen take on the acclaimed Polish film directed by Jan Komasa and written by Mateusz Pacewicz, billed as "a timely, elevated thriller that deals with class, politics, social media, disinformation, identity and the pursuit of happiness at all costs." Farah Films' Dan Farah and Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee are the executive producers with Komasa, Pacewicz, Andrew Farah and Naima Film's Wojciech Kabarowski and Jerzy Kapuściński as co-executive producers. (Deadline.com)
MEXICAN GOTHIC (Hulu, New!) - Silvia Moreno-Garcia's bestselling horror thriller novel is being developed as a drama series by the streaming service. The project, from Milojo Productions and ABC Signature, follows "a young socialite who travels to the Mexican countryside and the mountains of Hidalgo in hopes of rescuing her cousin, who has recently married into a reclusive mining family, after receiving a frantic letter in the mail." Moreno-Garcia, Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos and Albert Bianchini will executive produce. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED KAL PENN PROJECT (Freeform, New!) - Kal Penn will host a new unscripted comedy series at the cable channel "that explores issues and topics relevant to Millennial and GenZ voters."
