9-1-1: LONE STAR Returns for a Thrilling Second Season Next Year on FOX

Actress Gina Torres ("Suits," "Pearson," "Firefly") has joined FOX's 9-1-1: LONE STAR, from creators and executive producers Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear. Torres will be a series regular in the upcoming second season, which is scheduled to begin production in Los Angeles later this fall for a premiere in early 2021 as part of the network's midseason schedule.

In the series, Torres will play Paramedic Captain TOMMY VEGA who was at the top of her game when she hung up her uniform to raise her twin daughters. For eight years life was great, until Covid-19 changed her life. With her husband's restaurant going under, Tommy has no choice but to re-enter the workforce to support her family. Though it breaks her heart to be apart from her little girls, Tommy will show the world that no matter how much time has passed, when she puts on that uniform, she's still a boss.

"We are so excited to be expanding our 9-1-1-verse with the addition of Gina Torres," said Minear. "I've been dying to write for her again ever since 'Firefly.' Gina brings warmth, intelligence and command to everything she does. 2020 is finally looking up."

Torres is well known for her role as "Jessica Pearson" on the hit cable drama "Suits," and most recently toplined and executive-produced "Pearson," which saw her "Suits" character take on the world of Chicago politics. The role earned Torres an ALMA Award, an Imagen Award (as well as multiple additional Imagen nominations), the National Hispanic Media Coalition's Award for Outstanding Performance in a Television Series and the Visionary Award from the LA Femme Film Festival. Included amongst Torres's most notable television credits are her performances as the RussoCuban assassin "Anna Espinosa" on "Alias," the shotgun-toting mercenary "Zoe Washburn" on FOX's "Firefly" (whom she also played in the feature film "Serenity") and the soul-eating "Jasmine" on "Angel." Additional television credits include "The Catch," "Hannibal," "Revenge," "Huge," "The Shield," "24," "Pushing Daisies," "Flash Forward," "Gossip Girl," "Boondocks" and "The Vampire Diaries." She also has voiced the roles of "Vixen" in "The Justice League" animated series and "Superwoman" in "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths." Torres's film credits include "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions," "Jam," "South Of Pico," "I Think I Love My Wife," "Hair Show," "Five Fingers" and "Don't Let Me Drown."

9-1-1: LONE STAR is this season's #1 new series among Adults 18-49 (tie with FOX's LEGO MASTERS) and the #2 most-watched new series. With a Total Multiplatform average audience of 12.3 million viewers, 9-1-1: LONE STAR garners a +97% lift from its Live + Same Day delivery. 9-1-1: LONE STAR's premiere (3.8/18 L7) is this season's #1 debut and the #1 scripted debut since Fall 2018. Additionally, its debut is the season's highest-rated entertainment telecast among Adults 18-49 (excluding post-Super Bowl and award shows).
