ABOUT BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF GREATER LOS ANGELES

Founded in 1955 by Walt Disney and Meredith Willson as Big Brothers of Los Angeles and later merging with Big Sisters of Los Angeles in 2001, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles (BBBSLA) creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Through seven unique, professionally-supported mentoring programs, BBBSLA serves an average of 1,400-1,600 children and youth across Los Angeles County each year; 95% of youth served by BBBSLA are youth of color, and 92% of youth served lived in low or extremely-low income households. Children from under-resourced communities continue to lack access to educational and career opportunities, which has consistently contributed to the widening educational-achievement gap in Los Angeles, and BBBSLA exists to combat these negative circumstances, as mentoring has been identified as a critical factor in promoting positive academic, social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes for disadvantaged youth. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles is an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America - the largest and most experienced youth mentoring organization in the United States. Big Brothers Big Sisters has 230+ local agencies serving over 100,000 children and youth in more than 5,000 communities across all 50 states.
