Prime Video Announces Amazon Original "The Kids in the Hall: Comedy Punks," a Two-Part Documentary Series Celebrating Comedy Legends

Never-before-seen archive footage of the comedy troupe will be revealed in the documentary set to premiere at SXSW, before launching with the revival of Amazon Original The Kids in the Hall later this year on Prime Video

TORONTO - 2 February, 2022 - Prime Video today announced The Kids in the Hall: Comedy Punks, a two-part documentary chronicling the cult-favorite Canadian comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall. Produced by Blue Ant Studios, the documentary offers never-before-seen archival footage from the earliest years of the troupe and in-depth interviews with members Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson. The documentary dives into the group's post-punk era origins in the mid-1980s and their 40-year journey across five seasons of their renowned television series, a controversial feature film, and multiple sold-out tours, and joins the revival of The Kids in the Hall that will be available exclusively on Prime Video in 240 countries and territories worldwide later this year.

"It is hard to put into context the influence The Kids have had on comedy. Captured in the documentary, the praise from some of the biggest names in comedy speaks volumes to the influence and timelessness of the troupe's groundbreaking success," said Christina Wayne, head of Canadian Originals at Amazon Studios. "The documentary is a must-see not only for fans of The Kids, but comedy fans in general."

"The Kids in the Hall: Comedy Punks is a deep and intimate look into the world of the legendary troupe. It offers a fascinating take on the cultural climate in which their groundbreaking comedy flourished," said Laura Michalchyshyn, CCO, Blue Ant Studios and executive producer for The Kids in the Hall: Comedy Punks. "Their grassroots story as counterculture outsiders, whose sketches poked fun at corporate greed and amplified the comedy in everyday life, resonates with all of us. Their creativity and influence still inspires."

Featuring interviews with Fred Armisen, Lauren Ash, Jay Baruchel, Lewis Black, Janeane Garofalo, Eddie Izzard, Mae Martin, Eric McCormack, Lorne Michaels, Mike Myers, Matt Walsh, and Reggie Watts, as well as industry insiders and fans, the documentary explores how the group's comedy inspired their peers and subsequent generations of sketch comedians, and continues to endure today.

The Kids in the Hall: Comedy Punks is produced by Blue Ant Studios. The documentary is drawn from the critically acclaimed biography The Kids in the Hall: One Dumb Guy by Paul Myers, who serves as an executive producer. The documentary is produced by Nick McKinney (The Daily Show, The C Word, Insomniac with Dave Attell) and directed by Reg Harkema (Super Duper Alice Cooper, This is Pop). Executive Producers for Blue Ant Studios are Laura Michalchyshyn, Sam Sniderman, and Jennifer Harkness. Kim Creelman is producer. The docuseries will feature rare behind-the-scenes archival clips from the original The Kids in the Hall series, courtesy of Broadway Video Enterprises. The Kids in the Hall: Comedy Punks will also premiere on Blue Ant Media channel A.Side in Canada.
