Karla Souza brings "La Caída" to Prime Video, a Story of Strength and Redemption

The Mexican actress produced and stars in the film, inspired by a true story, which arrives on Prime Video on November 11 in more than 240 countries and territories

MEXICO CITY - October 10, 2022 - Today, Prime Video unveiled the release date for La Caída, a film inspired by a true story which chronicles the journey of a heroine that allows us to witness a path of redemption and strength through her eyes. The film, starring and produced by Karla Souza (El Presidente, Day Shift), arrives exclusively on Prime Video on November 11 in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.

From award-winning Argentine director Lucía Puenzo, whose debut feature XXY won the Cannes Film Festival's Critics' Week Grand Prix, comes the harrowing thriller La Caída starring Karla Souza, who delivers a dynamic performance. La Caída is a nuanced story about the complexities of relationships in which Mariel (Souza) is a veteran elite diver who has one last chance at the Olympic Games. However, when a terrible truth comes to light, Mariel faces her biggest personal question: Is winning her true dream?

"We are proud that Lucía Puenzo and Karla Souza have found an ally in Prime Video to bring a story with such a powerful and inspiring message to fruition," said Alonso Aguilar, Amazon's head of local Originals, Mexico. "La Caída is a film that is impossible to be indifferent to, and we can't wait for everyone to witness Karla's strength and passion as Mariel."

"La Caída is the most challenging and personal project of my career. I have found true growth and my own power and agency in the telling of this story. Amazon has been an amazing partner and proved to be the best home for this intimate and brave story. Our hope is to elevate the complex conversations surrounding the systemic abuse of power in our culture.", said Karla Souza, producer and star of La Caída.

"Some time ago, Karla Souza contacted me to propose writing this story inspired by true events. One of the most intense journeys of my life has been writing and shooting this film. Many doors shut, but many more opened. Karla trained for three years to be able to jump from a 10-meter platform... I am still moved by the dedication she and everyone involved have had from the first to the last day that this story brought us together," said Lucía puenzo, Director of La Caída. "Karla always repeats that La Caída found her team and her cast, and I agree with those words, it was not an easy script to write nor an easy film to shoot... we always knew it was flammable material, and today I also know that this film will forever be a fiercely personal project for the group of people who joined the emotional roller coaster that is La Caída."

"La Caída is a strong film that shows how difficult it is to break free from the past," added La Caída producer Ramiro Ruiz. "As well as the sacrifice and courage it takes to confront power and lies in a high-performance sport."

La Caída, directed by Lucía Puenzo (XXY, La Jauría), is produced by Karla Souza (El Presidente, Day Shift) Ana Laura Rascón (Hasta que te Conocí, Los Héroes del Norte), Ramiro Ruiz (Enfermo Amor, Diablo Guardián) and Axel Kuschevatzky (Argentina, 1985, Staged). It is written by Puenzo, María Renée Prudencio (Señorita 89, Coyote), Tatiana Mereñuk (Yo Soy Sola), Mónica Herrera, and Samara Ibrahin (Desenfrenadas, Diablo Guardián). It is produced by Prime Video, MADAM, Filmadora, and Infinity Hill and will premiere on November 11 exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.
