Berlin - October 4, 2023: Her suitcase is gone, her partner traitorous, her ex-boyfriend is dead, his wife an agent... How many people can you be betrayed by? Ex-Stasi killer Kleo Straub (Jella Haase) has solved the mystery of the conspiracy surrounding her arrest, but the evidence is now in the hands of the CIA thanks to her antagonist or partner in crime Sven (Dimitrij Schaad). The vendetta continues at a fast pace, taking Kleo to Belgrade and Moscow in Season 2 - and to a crossroads between the past and the possible future.
When it launched in August 2022, the fast-paced action thriller KLEO thrilled viewers as a "must-see series" (Glamour) that even U.S. best-selling author Stephen King raved about: "What a breath of fresh air!" The renewal of the internationally renowned series was followed by a nomination for the U.S. American Critics Choice Award in April. Currently, the KLEO team is delighted to have received the German Grimme Award as well as German Television Award for "Best Drama Series" and for Jella Haase as "Best Actress."
The showrunner and writer team HaRiBo (Para - Wir sind King, 4 Blocks), consisting of Hanno Hackfort, Richard Kropf and Bob Konrad, is once again responsible for season 2. Michael Souvignier, Till Derenbach and Jörg Engels from Zeitsprung Pictures act as executive producers. The series is directed by Isabel Braak and Nina Vukovic with scripts by HaRiBo and Katharina Brauer. After shooting in Berlin and Brandenburg since July, the KLEO production will now hit the streets of the Serbian capital Belgrade in the fall. The second season will start next year.
About KLEO Season 2
The hunt for the red suitcase continues - and this time former East German spy Kleo shall destroy it for good. It quickly becomes clear that the bag's contents play an important role in the reorganization of Germany and Europe after the Cold War. No wonder, then, that the KGB and the CIA are also after the suitcase and thus the retired Stasi killer. And while Kleo holds the future of Europe in her hands, she is catapulted deeper into her own past than she would like.
