'BARGAIN BLOCK NEW ORLEANS' BRINGS HIGHER-STAKES
RENOVATIONS FOR HOPELESS ABANDONED HOMES
New HGTV Series Premieres Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 9 p.m. ET/PT
New York [Sept. 5, 2024] In the new spinoff series Bargain Block New Orleans, renovation experts and partners Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas, stars of HGTV's popular Detroit-based series Bargain Block, will risk it all to restore rundown houses in yet another iconic city. During the five-episode season premiering Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, Keith and Evan will temporarily step away from Detroit for the unfamiliar New Orleans real estate scene with its unexpected construction challenges. To help revitalize neighborhoods in the competitive market, the couple will buy the most dilapidated houses on a block and take them down to the studs. Inspired by the Big Easy's unique architecture, they'll stretch their budget and creativity to rebuild affordable, fully furnished homes featuring classic NOLA design elements like wrought iron railings, arched doorways and corbel accents.
"Seven years ago, we picked up and moved to Detroit with about two nickels and the idea for rehabbing abandoned houses into stylish, affordable homes," said Evan. "It hasn't been easy, but it worked out pretty well."
"And now we're taking the biggest risk yet to test our big idea outside Detroit," said Keith. "We want to revitalize neglected homes in New Orleans and prove that good design is attainable for everyone."
In the series premiere, Keith and Evan will purchase their first property - a pricey Seventh Ward double, or duplex, with an uneven foundation, terrible floorplan and shocking bee infestation. After seeking advice from their friend, lifetime Detroit resident and real estate expert Shea Hicks-Whitfield, the duo will add value by building a second story, converting one side into a rental and salvaging the exterior's historical charm.
Keith and Evan also will experience New Orleans' vibrant culture throughout the season, from dancing in a Mardi Gras parade and enjoying a crawfish boil to visiting a fortune teller and searching for treasures at local architectural salvage shops.
