Prime Video have unveiled the first look at series two of the highly-anticipated thriller, The Rig. The six-part series is set to premiere January 2025 and was filmed at First Stage Studios in Edinburgh, Scotland. The first series of The Rig premiered in 2023 and became a UK and international hit.

The second series will see the return of Iain Glen (Game of Thrones), Martin Compston (Line of Duty), Emily Hampshire (Schitt's Creek), Rochenda Sandall (Criminal: UK), Owen Teale (Game of Thrones), Mark Addy (Game of Thrones), Molly Vevers (The Spanish Princess), Abraham Popoola (Cruella), Nikhil Parmar (Foundation) and Stuart McQuarrie (Des), alongside new faces Ross Anderson (The Last Kingdom), Phil McKee (Deadwater Fell), Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (The Queen's Gambit), Johannes Roaldsen Fürst (Hvite gutter) and Alice Krige (Star Trek).

Helicopters have taken the surviving crew of the Kinloch Bravo to a new secret offshore facility called the Stac, nestled deep in the extraordinary and deadly landscapes of the Arctic Circle. Here, the trapped crew must deal with the emotional and physical fallout of the devastating tsunami that destroyed the Bravo, and contend with swirling conspiracies, corporate conflicts, and new threats from the dark depths of the world's ocean. The second series will continue exploring global themes - weaving together the past, present, and future of the planet while taking the viewer to spectacular environments and drawing on the frontiers of cutting edge ocean technology - including the controversial world of deep sea mining. David Macpherson has created a new story that delivers epic thrills and gripping action for a compelling cast of characters, both returning and new.

'The deep ocean contains over 95% of the life-supporting space on our planet and we still explore it with candle light. We have no idea how much more there is to see'

The series is produced by Wild Mercury Productions (part of Banijay UK), written by David Macpherson & Meg Salter (Episode 4) and directed by John Strickland (Line of Duty, Bodyguard) and Alex Holmes (The Letter for the King). The executive producers are Derek Wax, David Macpherson, and John Strickland. The series producer is Suzanne Reid, and the co-producer is Matt Brown.

Prime members will be able to watch all episodes of The Rig series two anywhere and anytime on the Prime Video app for smart TVs, mobile devices, Fire TV, Fire TV stick, Fire tablets, games consoles, on Virgin's V6 TV Box, the Talk Talk TV set top box, Apple TV, Chromecast, BT TV or online at www.amazon.co.uk/primevideo. In the Prime Video app, Prime members can download episodes on their mobile devices and tablets and watch anywhere offline at no additional cost. Prime Video is available in the UK and Ireland at no extra cost to a Prime membership for just £8.99 a month or £95 per year. About Wild Mercury

Wild Mercury (a Banijay UK company) was set up by Managing Director, Derek Wax, to develop and produce bold, irreverent, imaginative stories for UK and US broadcasters, in creative collaboration with the most original writers working in drama and comedy. Alongside the first series of The Rig, which is currently on Amazon Prime, their true crime mini-series, The Sixth Commandment, written by Sarah Phelps and directed by Saul Dibb, launched last year on BBC One as a co-production with True Vision, to great critical acclaim. In 2024, the series won Best Limited Series at the BAFTA and RTS awards, as well as awards for lead and supporting cast members Timothy Spall and Eanna Hardwicke and the writers. The show also received two nominations for the International Emmys. Wild Mercury's new mini-series Fear, also for Prime Video and filmed in Glasgow earlier this year, stars Martin Compston and Anjli Mohindra and is now in post production. Earlier Wild Mercury productions include Troy: Fall of a City for BBC and Netflix, and Humans for Channel 4 and AMC, both co-productions with Kudos.
