MGM Alternative Inks Exclusive First-Look Deal with Regina Hall's RH Negative
Acclaimed Actress and Producer Regina Hall to Develop Unscripted Series Including Squad Games (working title)
CULVER CITY - October 30, 2024 - MGM Alternative, a division of Amazon MGM Studios, has struck an exclusive first-look deal with Regina Hall and her production company Rh Negative. Under the agreement, the company will work with Hall and her team to develop and produce original unscripted true crime, ensemble docu-series, and game genres.
The first series to go into development with Hall is Squad Games (working title). Loosely inspired by the success of her film, Girls Trip, this arcing competition features celebrities and their real-life BFFs on an exotic getaway where they compete in wild challenges.
Barry Poznick, general manager, MGM Alternative said, "Ever since we saw Regina Hall co-hosting the Academy Awards two years ago, we knew she had something special that would resonate with reality fans. Her humour, honesty, creativity and style of storytelling make her a perfect partner as we continue to expand MGM Alternative's slate of premium unscripted programming."
"I'm so excited for this new partnership with MGM. I'm positive that the relationship between Rh Negative and their team will be an incredibly supportive and productive one and I'm thrilled about what we have in the works," said Regina Hall.
Hall is one of Hollywood's most sought-after actresses and producers. She has starred in franchises like The Best Man, Think Like a Man and the first four of the Scary Movie films. She's gone toe-to-toe with comedians like Kevin Hart, Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan, Mike Epps, Cedric the Entertainer, Wanda Sykes, Brett Gelman and more. In 2017, Hall was joined by legends Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and breakout star Tiffany Haddish in the raucous, blockbuster comedy, Girls Trip and the next year she starred in the indie hit Support the Girls, for which she became the first African-American actress to ever win a New York Film Critics Circle award for Best Actress.
Under the banner, Rh Negative, Hall has quickly established herself as a producer to watch. She starred in and produced the mega-church dark comedy Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul opposite Sterling K Brown, for which she received critical acclaim and an Independent Spirit Award nomination. She also starred in and executive produced the occult drama Master for Prime Video. Both films premiered at the Sundance Film Festival with Honk for Jesus being sold to Focus Features and becoming the second highest sale out of the festival that year. Hall will soon be seen in the Searchlight Pictures' original sci-fi rock opera O'Dessa, and will star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn in Paul Thomas Anderson's new film.
