HBO Announces The End Of Filming For The Second Season Of CITY OF GOD: THE FIGHT RAGES ON

HBO has completed filming the second season of CITY OF GOD: THE FIGHT RAGES ON. Produced by 02 Filmes, the HBO original series is a sequel to the award-winning 2002 film, with its first season released in 2024 and available in full on the Max streaming platform.

While the release date is yet to be announced, the new season of CITY OF GOD: THE FIGHT RAGES ON begins with a dramatic, investigative tone, exploring the complex power dynamics within the community. After the death of drug lord Curió, a war for control of City of Gods erupts between Geninho, his heir, and Matarrindo, his right-hand man.

Meanwhile, newly elected councilwoman Berenice battles against political corruption and militias, and Jerusa, a lawyer with a dark past, seeks revenge against those who destroyed her family. Amidst this turmoil, the community unites through funk culture, led by Leka, who strives to transform the favela into a place of hope and resistance.

The upcoming chapters of the series, which captivated both audiences and critics, promise even more twists and turns for the future of its residents. The second season, consisting of six episodes, was filmed in several locations in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Alexandre Rodrigues, Roberta Rodrigues, Sabrina Rosa, Andreia Horta, Kiko Marques, Dhonata Augusto, Luellem de Castro, Victor Andrade, Carol Dall Farra, Rafael Lozano, Shirley Cruz and Otavio Linhares return to their roles. In addition to them, the great cast of the production includes the return of Matheus Nachtergaele reviving Carrots, his character from the 2002 film, Demétrio Nascimento, Aretha Sadick, Jurema da Matta, Emilly Amaral, Jefferson Brasil, Luiz Bertazzo, Andre Dread, Felipe Paulino, Bragadok, Jeff D Paulla, Don, Scoobyduu15, Bryan Sant, Ricardo Fernandes, João Felix, Julito Oliveira, Iago Pires, Natan Tayllor, as well as Rubens Santos, Faíska, Rafael Sardão Rita Assemany, Markus Konká, Milton Filho, WB Negão, Alexandre Paz, Guilherme Guerreiro who join this new season.

CITY OF GOD: THE FIGHT RAGES ON is an HBO Original series produced by O2 Filmes. The producers responsible for the project are Andrea Barata Ribeiro and Fernando Meirelles, and the co-producers are Cris Abi and Gustavo Gontijo. Aly Muritiba is the general director, Bruno Costa is the episode director, and Thatiane Almeida is the episode co-director. The writing room is led by Maíra Oliveira, Patricia Andrade and Paulo Lins, with screenwriters Estevão Ribeiro, Luiz Guilherme Assis, Rodrigo Felha, Clara Meirelles and Vicente Ferraz.
