It's Almost Time for Life's Sweetest Romance: 'Romantics Anonymous' Debuts October 16
How can a love story blossom between a man afraid of physical contact and a woman who's terrified of eye contact? Premiering on October 16, Romantics Anonymous will witness the blossoming relationship between these two individuals, alongside a unique twist in their respective conditions: they seem immune to each other. A star-studded cast from Japan and Korea brings this perfectly imperfect romcom series to life.
The first-look teaser trailer introduces Sosuke Fujiwara (Shun Oguri), heir to a major confectionery company, who has a fear of germs and can't bear touching anyone. Opposite him is Hana (Han Hyo-joo), a gifted chocolatier who creates their best-selling desserts. Due to her extreme fear of eye contact, she works as an anonymous chocolatier for the popular and exquisite chocolate shop, Le Sauveur.
When Sosuke becomes the new head of Le Sauveur, he decides to revamp operations and meet with the equally anxious Hana. To their surprise, she finds herself able to look Sosuke in the eyes, while he doesn't recoil from touching her. What follows is a charming, slow-burn exploration of their day-to-day interactions, as the two gradually and sweetly begin to grow close to each other.
We also meet Hiro (Jin Akanishi), Sosuke's best friend and a jazz bar owner whom Hana secretly admires, and Irene (Yuri Nakamura), an old friend of Sosuke's and a therapist who also happens to be Hana's counselor. Viewers will want to keep an eye on how the lives of these four characters intertwine.
Joining them, Ryo Narita portrays Takashi Fujiwara, Sosuke's supportive cousin at work, and Ayumi Ito takes on the role of Motomi Kawamura, Le Sauveur's chief chocolatier, who pours her heart and soul into the shop. Eiji Okuda plays Kenji Kuroiwa, the owner of Le Sauveur, a chocolatier who understands Hana's scopophobia and cares for her deeply. Koichi Sato rounds out the cast as Shuntaro Fujiwara, Sosuke's father and the chairman of Futago Confectionery.
Director Sho Tsukikawa, known for his expertise in love stories, expertly assembled this ensemble together with some of Asia's leading creators: Lee Ha-jun (Parasite) led the production design, Jin-mo Yang (Parasite) served as editor, Kosuke Yamada (Beyond Goodbye) helmed the cinematography, and Dalpalan, an award-winning veteran music director from South Korea, composed the soundtrack.
It's almost time for life's sweetest romance. Romantics Anonymous streams October 16, only on Netflix.
