5 Reasons Why "Confidence Queen" Will Be Your Next Favourite Series

SINGAPORE - September 2, 2025 - The cast and crew of Confidence Queen came together in Seoul for a press conference, offering fans a sneak peek into their upcoming comedy-caper series. Director Nam Ki-hoon was joined by lead actors Park Min-young, Park Hee-soon, and Joo Jong-hyuk as they shared behind-the-scenes insights and highlights to look forward to. Confidence Queen tells the story of Yi-rang, a brilliant woman who becomes the ultimate con artist. She teams up with James and Gu-ho, working as a trio of swindlers, to expose villains and take their ill-gotten gains. Blending fast-paced heist action with comedy, the highly anticipated Korean series will premiere on September 6, with new episodes released weekly in over 240 countries and territories, exclusively on Prime Video. With the debut just days away, here's why you're going to love it:

1. Queen Park Min-young

K-drama queen Park Min-young makes her much anticipated return after the global success of Marry My Husband. Fans have been eagerly awaiting her next project, and she doesn't disappoint with a striking transformation in Confidence Queen. Park Min-young shared, "I was attracted to the completely different character and excited to show a very different image." Her role as Yun Yi-rang is bolder and sharper-a clever, unconventional leader who masterminds cons against villains. Adding to the excitement, Park will showcase her versatility as Yi-rang slips into multiple disguises and personas while taking down her targets.

2. Solid Cast

In addition to fan-favourite Park Min-young, the main cast includes veteran actor Park Hee-soon and rising actor Joo Jong-hyuk. Park Hee-soon has impressed in numerous films and series such as My Name, Trolley, and The Bequeathed. Likewise, Joo Jong-hyuk has made his name known through projects like Extraordinary Attorney Woo. There's also a long list of special cameos made by well-known actors like Song Ji-hyo, Rowoon, Oh Na-ra, and more. Furthermore, Park Min-young's Marry My Husband co-star Lee Yi-kyung will also be making a cameo. Park Min-young revealed, "When I read the script about a character singing the song 'Emergency' by Izi while defecating, I thought that he would be perfect for the role because of his great comedy skills."

3. Popular Original Story

Confidence Queen is adapted from the original hit Japanese series Confidence Man. Director Nam Ki-hoon explained how the team balanced honouring the original while giving it a distinctly Korean touch. He commented, "With Yun Yi-rang, played by Park Min-young, at the center, the trio carry out one scheme after another. The schemes are intertwined and it becomes unravelled as you go further into the story." The director further shared, "We focused more on the reasons for the cons and we also tried to focus more on Yi-rang's backstory. I think those are some things that set our series apart from the original."

4. Fun & Comedic Costumes

With the Confidence Queen trio targeting corrupt individuals, the cast takes on new identities in every con. Joo Jong-hyuk shared, "All of us pulled off a lot of different costumes and looks, about 10 to 15. One time I had to transform into a woman and it took a very long time, about 2 and a half hours." Park Hee-soon added, "For every episode, I portrayed 1 to 2 characters and it was so much fun. Sometimes I would walk around and no one would be able to recognize me, not even the director." Joo Jong-hyuk also mentioned, "When I was in costume, it felt almost like the show King of Masked Singer." Get ready for plenty of outrageous and hilarious transformations!

5. Not a Simple Caper Story

Beyond the amusing costumes, each episode is packed with high-stakes capers, layered with depth and intrigue. Nam Ki-hoon shared, "There are plenty of different costumes and get-ups, but just as many stories. We worked hard to show a lot of different aspects." He further commented, "There are villains every episode, and through them I tried to show some societal issues. The story is like a puzzle with different pieces, so I think it'll be fun if you consider that while watching." The director concluded, "My personal hope is that the series does well and we can have more seasons."

Step into the dazzling world of Confidence Queen - where fantasy meets romance and every scheme is a thrill. Streaming exclusively on Prime Video, Saturdays and Sundays starting September 6.
