Netflix Announces the Series 'Nights & Days,' Directed by Kamila Tarabura

Filming for the next Netflix series is starting soon - a new adaptation of Maria Dąbrowska's novel Nights & Days, directed by Kamila Tarabura. The series will present viewers with the four seasons of Barbara and Bogumił Niechcic's relationship, serving up a timeless story of their complicated feelings. Above all, however, it will be a portrait of a woman - unpredictable and full of many contradictions.

The series Nights & Days, set at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, is an extremely relevant story, focused on the daily life of the Niechcic marriage - their ups and downs, small and great dilemmas, or desires and longing for what has been lost. Romantic Barbara and pragmatic Bogumił are characters who, through their differences and distinct language of love, can become a mirror for contemporary relationships, showing universal conflicts and dilemmas that have accompanied us for generations.

"Our interpretation of Maria Dąbrowska's masterpiece is an honest and emotional reflection on the myth of romantic love and the eternal battle between expectations and reality," says Kamila Tarabura, the series' director. "It is also a story about building a long-term relationship, about the fact that a relationship is work that can bear fruit throughout life. Barbara faces many universal dilemmas concerning sacrifice for marriage and family, giving up her own dreams, and the search for happiness," the director adds.

Nights & Days is a love letter to Poland - through landscape, visual language and emotional complexity, the creators want to build a bridge between generations - between those who know this story in its classic form and those who are to fall in love with it for the first time.

"Polish culture is a treasury of stories that have captivated us for generations. The story shown in 'Nights & Days' is no different - it still charms us, becoming a timeless reflection on ordinary human dilemmas. That is why, at Netflix, we want to tell it anew to viewers, including future generations, through the talent and contemporary sensitivity of the young creators who are working on this production," comments Łukasz Kłuskiewicz, Netflix Program Director for Central and Eastern Europe. "Following the enthusiastic reception of 'Forgotten Love' and the huge interest in our upcoming series based on Prus's 'The Doll,' this is another Netflix production in which we bring an epic work of Polish culture to the screen, showing that these are stories that can still be rediscovered," Kłuskiewicz adds.

Nights & Days, a series based on one of the most important Polish interwar novels by Maria Dąbrowska, nominated five times for the Nobel Prize in Literature, will be produced by Justyna Pawlak (recently responsible for the production of the multi-award-winning Netflix original series Infamy), and directed by Kamila Tarabura, whose series debut was the acclaimed Netflix production Absolute Beginners. The screenplay for the series was written by: Marta Bacewicz, Katarzyna Tybinka, and Kamila Tarabura.

Series Description: At a time when Poland has long been absent from the map of Europe, Barbara Ostrzeńska - a proud, but impoverished noblewoman - learns that her great love is marrying another woman. Determined to escape spinsterhood, she marries Bogumił Niechcic, a modest former insurgent and property manager. His peace of mind and sense of fulfillment that his work gives him contrast with her restless nature. Over the thirty years shown on screen, they build a life together in the countryside, but Barbara's yearning for passion and lost status constantly clashes with her daily reality. Disappointed with life, yet in a sense fulfilled in it, Barbara remains a constant challenge - for her loved ones and for herself.
