LIFETIME RETEAMS WITH ROBIN ROBERTS FOR FOURTH FILM UNDER ROBIN ROBERTS PRESENTS BANNER "ANGEL IN THE RUBBLE" STARRING SHERRI SHEPHERD IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11
Based on the Bestseller
Angel in the Rubble: The Miraculous Rescue of 9/11's Last Survivor
NEW YORK, NY (March 4, 2026) - Lifetime continues its successful partnership with celebrated journalist Robin Roberts, greenlighting the new original movie, Angel in the Rubble, the fourth project under the Robin Roberts Presents banner. Executive produced by Roberts via her Rock'n Robin Productions, the film stars actress, comedian and Daytime Emmy(R) Award-winning talk show host Sherri Shepherd who also executive produces, as Genelle Guzman, a New York City transit employee who was the last survivor pulled from the debris at Ground Zero. Slated to premiere in September in remembrance of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the movie is based on Genelle Guzman-McMillan's memoir Angel in the Rubble: The Miraculous Rescue of 9/11's Last Survivor.
Angel in the Rubble recounts the extraordinary survival of Genelle Guzman (Sherri Shepherd), a NYC transit worker who was buried beneath the collapse of Tower One on 9/11 and trapped for 27 harrowing hours. As she fought to stay alive, Genelle reflected on her life and the faith she had left behind, praying for deliverance and promising to change if given another chance. Her prayers were answered when a man named Paul found her in the debris and remained by her side until rescuers pulled her to safety - the final survivor recovered from Ground Zero. When Genelle later searched for Paul to thank him, no one could confirm he was ever there, leading her to believe he was an angel sent to save her and guide her toward the renewed life she had promised while buried beneath the rubble.
Angel in the Rubble is produced by Rock'n Robin Productions and Lighthouse Pictures in association with Motion Entertainment, a WPP Media company. Executive producers are Robin Roberts, Linda Berman, Anne Carlucci and Sherri Shepherd. Jameson Parker and Gemma Martini serve as executive producers for Lighthouse. Richard Foster and Chet Fenster executive produce for Motion Entertainment. The script is written by Robert Eisele.
The other films produced for Lifetime under the Robin Roberts Presents banner include I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story, Stolen By My Mother: The Kamiyah Mobley Story starring Niecy Nash and Mahalia, starring Danielle Brooks. Mahalia went on to receive numerous award accolades including an Emmy nomination, Critics Choice nominations for the movie and Brooks, NAACP award recognition for the film, Brooks and director Kenny Leon of which he won a PGA nomination, and many others.
