CNN Flashdoc "Royal Fever: Why America Can't Quit The Crown" Premieres Saturday, July 18 at 8pm ET and Streams on CNN App the Same Day
NEW YORK, NY - (July 13, 2026) - CNN today announced the premiere of its latest CNN FlashDoc, Royal Fever: Why America Can't Quit the Crown, an exploration of America's enduring fascination with the British royal family. The documentary special will premiere Saturday, July 18 at 8pm ET on CNN, and will stream on the CNN app and at CNN.com/watch beginning the same day.
From fairy tale weddings and royal coronations to headline-making scandals and generations of pomp and circumstance, Royal Fever examines why, 250 years after breaking away from the British monarchy, the crown continues to captivate audiences in the United States. Along the way, the hour considers how the House of Windsor has carefully cultivated its public image for generations, transforming the monarchy into one of the world's most recognizable symbols of tradition, celebrity and soft power.
The special explores the monarchy's evolution from the first televised coronation of Queen Elizabeth II offering millions of viewers an unprecedented glimpse inside the royal family, to the global phenomenon of Princess Diana, whose extraordinary popularity fueled an insatiable appetite for royal coverage. It also examines the rise of Prince William and Prince Harry, the modern media dynamic surrounding "the heir and the spare," and the seismic impact of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to step away from royal duties.
The CNN FlashDocs unit delivers sharp, in-the-moment storytelling on the issues shaping culture and conversation today. Previous FlashDocs include Bad Bunny and the Halftime Show: Rhythms of Resistance and Behind the Bob: Vogue's Anna Wintour. Royal Fever is executive produced by Eric Johnson. Amy Entelis and Katie Hinman are executive producers for CNN Studios.
