CNN BROADCAST PREMIERE ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 9 AT 8PM ET/PT
NEW YORK, NY - (August 3, 2026) - CNN today announced the premiere of its latest CNN FlashDoc, Eclipsing Power: Musk, Bezos and the New Space Race, an examination of how two billionaires are reshaping America's future in space. The documentary special will stream at CNN.com/Watch and on the CNN app starting Friday, August 7 and will air Sunday, August 9 at 8pm ET on CNN, just days before this summer's highly anticipated solar eclipse.
Eclipsing Power traces how Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have transformed the future of space exploration, shifting what was once an endeavor primarily led by government into a race driven by private ambition. It follows the rise of SpaceX and Blue Origin, detailing how two of the world's most influential entrepreneurs have come to play an outsized role in America's space program. The hour looks at both the opportunities and the risks of NASA's growing reliance on private industry, the race to return humans to the moon, and what this new era of commercial spaceflight could mean for the future of humanity.
It features interviews with leading journalists, scientists and space policy experts including Chief Ambassador of The Planetary Society Bill Nye, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, acclaimed journalist and CNN Contributor Kara Swisher, Elon Musk biographer Walter Isaacson, and more.
The CNN FlashDocs unit delivers sharp, in-the-moment storytelling on the issues shaping culture and conversation today. Previous FlashDocs include Bad Bunny and the Halftime Show: Rhythms of Resistance and Behind the Bob: Vogue's Anna Wintour. The full CNN FlashDocs library is available to stream for CNN's streaming subscribers.
Eclipsing Power is executive produced by Eric Johnson. Amy Entelis and Katie Hinman are executive producers for CNN Studios.
