John Slattery Joins the Cast of "The Best of Us" for Paramount+

Emmy(R) Nominee John Slattery will star alongside Emmy and Tony(R) Award Winner, Academy Award(R) Nominee and executive producer Jeremy Strong (Succession, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, The Apprentice) in The Best of Us, the upcoming six-episode limited series for Paramount+ is inspired by the David vs. Goliath fight that won justice for 9/11's ailing heroes.

John Slattery (Mad Men, Spotlight) will play "James Leavitt," a highly experienced and formidable defense lawyer retained by City Hall to counter Jason's class-action lawsuit.

The Best of Us  dramatizes a landmark case that reshaped the fight for accountability: a relentless legal war that stretched nearly a decade to secure almost $1 billion in compensation for first responders who fell gravely ill in the wake of 9/11. 

As previously announced, Jeremy Strong stars as renowned class action lawyer "Jason Smith." Andrea Riseborough, Barry Pepper, Neal Huff, Gaby Hoffmann and Sky Yang also star.

Produced by Paramount Television Studios and SISTER, the limited series is written, directed and executive produced by Tobias Lindholm (The Investigation, A War) and written and executive produced by Frank Pugliese (House of Cards). Strong is also executive producer.

John Slattery  is an Emmy and Critics Choice Award-nominated actor who can be seen alongside Zoey Deutch and Jon Hamm in David Wain's Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass, which made its debut at Sundance 2026 and premiered at Tribeca Festival on June 10. The film follows Midwest bride, Gail Daughtry, as she travels to Hollywood seeking revenge by pursuing her own celebrity encounter when her fiancé uses their "celebrity pass" agreement. The film was released theatrically July 10. Recently, Slattery can be seen in Vladimir opposite Rachel Weisz and Leo Woodall. He also starred in James Vanderbilt's historical drama Nuremberg, alongside Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, Michael Shannon and Leo Woodall. He is most well-known for his Emmy Award-nominated performance as "Roger Sterling" on the critically acclaimed cable series Mad Men, as well as numerous television roles on series such as Documentary Now, Arrested Development, Sex and the City, Veep, Next, Mrs. America, and The Good Fight. He also earned a Critics Choice Award nomination in the category of Best Guest Actor for his role in the streaming series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. His previous feature film credits include Tom McCarthy's feature film Spotlight, Confess, Fletch, Avengers: Endgame, Ant Man, The Adjustment Bureau, Iron Man 2, Bluebird, Flags of Our Fathers, Charlie Wilson's War, Mona Lisa Smile, The Station Agent and Traffic. On Broadway, Slattery appeared in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rabbit Hole (Drama League Award), Betrayal, Laughter On The 23rd Floor, and The Front Page, opposite Nathan Lane. Slattery made his directorial debut on the fourth season of Mad Men, of which he went on to direct five episodes. Additional television credits include Judd Apatow's series Love, of which he directed three episodes. On the feature side, Slattery made his directorial debut with God's Pocket, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and John Turturro. Most recently, he directed the film Maggie Moore(s), which premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival.
