"FAMOUS LAST WORDS" HONORS THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF GLORIA STEINEM

The Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient and feminist organizer shares a final, intimate call to action for equality and justice.

Visit Tudum for more information.

· Famous Last Words is honored to present an interview with Gloria Steinem, the writer, lecturer, and feminist organizer who spent more than half a century at the heart of the global struggle for equality. In accordance with the series' unique mission, this conversation was recorded in private, held in trust until after her passing to be shared as a final gift to the world she helped transform.

· Conducted by Emmy Award winner Brad Falchuk in February 2025, the episode captures Steinem not just as a media spokeswoman, but as a lifelong traveler on the road to justice. While the world often recognizes her as a face of modern feminism, this interview delves into her deep-seated interests in the shared origins of sex and race caste systems, the cultures of Indigenous peoples, and the vital necessity of organizing across boundaries for equality.

· Steinem also takes advantage of the Famous Last Words format to speak freely about her loves, her family, the complicated personal politics within the feminist movement and her regrets.

· Steinem, who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama in 2013, reflects on a life spent in motion. From her early days as a journalist to the publication of her best-selling books like My Life on the Road, she discusses the roots of violence and the power of non-violent conflict resolution with the same clarity that made her a household name. Living most of her life in New York City, Steinem used this confidential session to meditate on what it means to truly "organize" a life and a legacy.

· This installment of Famous Last Words joins the posthumous archives of fellow icons including Dr. Jane Goodall and Eric Dane. Using remotely operated cameras to ensure an atmosphere of total intimacy, the series allows Steinem to speak without the pressure of a public stage, offering a reflection that is as personal as it is political. For more on the unique production requirements of the series, see here.

· As the interview concludes, the "Gloria" of a thousand marches looks directly into the camera to deliver one final, unedited message to the next generation of activists. Her famous last words serve as a bridge between the progress of the past and the hopes of the future. Visit Tudum for the transcript.

· "Gloria Steinem was the steady heartbeat of a revolution, but in this room, she was a woman reflecting on the simple, profound beauty of human connection," says Executive Producer Brad Falchuk. "She spoke about the intersection of race, gender, and peace with a wisdom that only comes from a lifetime on the front lines. Even in her final moments, she was organizing us, challenging us to keep moving forward. It is an extraordinary privilege to share her final thoughts with the world."

· Famous Last Words is based on the acclaimed Danish format Det Sidste Ord. The series is executive produced by Falchuk and Mikkel Bondesen through the Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision banner, alongside BSNA (a Banijay Entertainment company), David Goldberg, and showrunner David Friedman.
