'The Child' Is Coming to Netflix on 27 November, Following Its Cinema Premiere on 13 November
Netflix has today announced the release date for The child, the new film written and directed by Mariano Barroso (Éxtasis, Todas las mujeres, La línea invisible) and starring Goya Award winners Belén Cuesta (La trinchera infinita, La casa de papel) and Karra Elejalde (8 apellidos vascos, Mientras dure la guerra). El niño will hit cinemas on 13 November, ahead of its Netflix release on 27 November.
Based on the novel by Fernando Aramburu, and produced by Mariano Barroso and Rafael Portela (Umea Films), The Child tells the story of Mariaje (Belén Cuesta) and Nicasio (Karra Elejalde), the mother and grandfather of one of the children who died in a gas explosion in a town in the Basque Country in October 1980. The tragedy shocked the local community and the whole of Spain, changing their lives forever. On a journey marked by unexpected emotions, Mariaje and Nicasio search for - and find - their own unique way to overcome their loss.
With The child, Mariano Barroso returns to directing, following Todas las mujeres - the film for which he won, alongside Alejandro Hernández, the Goya for Best Adapted Screenplay - and series such as El día de mañana and La línea invisible.
The cast is rounded off by Pep Ambròs (El cuerpo en llamas, El olivo), Raquel Ferri (Los renglones torcidos de Dios), Joan Solé (Nos vemos en otra vida), and the young actor Alex Infantes (El cuco de cristal).
