BET RENEWS "COMICVIEW: ROOFTOP SERIES" FOR A SECOND SEASON
Chris "CP" Powell Returns As Host
The Revived Stand-Up Franchise Doubles Its Lineup to 60 Comedians
NEW YORK, NY - October 21, 2026 - BET today announced a second season of "ComicView: Rooftop Series," with Chris "CP" Powell returning as host. The revival of the landmark franchise behind some of Black comedy's biggest careers builds on a debut season that ranked as cable's No. 1 new unscripted series among Black viewers this summer. The 20-episode order puts 60 comedians on the Hollywood rooftop and cements the series as an anchor of the network's Comedy Fun Night. Veteran comics Affion Crockett, Cocoa Brown, Lavell Crawford, and Luenell will join the lineup alongside rising talent. Powell comes back fresh off a breakout run that included his BET special "Sunday After Six," a spot among the 10 comedians selected for Netflix's The Shortlist at the 2026 Netflix Is a Joke Festival, and his work as a writer and guest star across multiple episodes as "Mac" on the Paramount+ Original series "Diarra From Detroit," from BET Studios and Khalabo Ink Society.
"I'm beyond proud and excited to be back at the helm for season two of 'ComicView: Rooftop Series,'" said host Chris "CP" Powell. "Season one was amazing, and this season promises to be even better, with bigger comics and even bigger laughs. BET being back at the forefront of stand-up comedy just feels right!"
The original "ComicView" premiered in 1992 and launched D.L. Hughley, Sommore, Cedric the Entertainer, and Bruce Bruce, becoming a touchstone in Black comedy along the way. After a 2024 return at Kevin Hart's Hartbeat Weekend, the franchise became "ComicView: Rooftop Series," featuring 30 comedians from across the country. Its first season ranked among the top 10 TV comedy series in social engagement, landing in the top three on YouTube and top five on Instagram.
"'ComicView' is part of BET's DNA, and this rooftop proved our audience is still hungry for it," said Aisha Summers-Burke, EVP, Head of Creative, BET Studios. "Season two puts a whole new class of comics in front of them, and there's no one better than CP to hand them the mic."
The renewal continues BET's commitment to creating platforms for Black comedians, keeping the stage that built the greats open for whoever comes next. When the series returns, it rejoins Comedy Fun Night on BET, the network's Tuesday destination built on one simple promise: one night, all kinds of funny.
"ComicView: Rooftop Series" is executive produced by Jeru Tillman for Southfield Village Entertainment.
