"The 49th Annual Grammy Awards" Delivers Its Largest Audience and Highest Ratings in Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 Since 2004
The Grammys Post Double Digit Percentage Gains in Key Demographics Versus Last Year
CBS Dominates Sunday
The 49TH ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS, in which the Dixie Chicks were the big winners with five awards including Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year, delivered its largest audience since 2004, according to preliminary Nielsen Live Plus same-day ratings for Sunday, Feb. 11.
Returning to Sunday following last year's Wednesday broadcast, THE 49th ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS (S) posted a 12.2/19 in households with 20.06m viewers, 9.2/20 in adults 25-54, 8.3/20 in adults 18-49 and 7.6/19 in adults 18-34 from 8:00-11:30PM.
THE GRAMMYS average audience of 20.06m million viewers is the largest since 2004. This is the also THE GRAMMY AWARDS' best delivery in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 since 2004.
The GRAMMY AWARDS won every half-hour in households, viewers, adults 18-34, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 from 8:00-11:00 PM.
Compared to last year, THE GRAMMYS (Wednesday, 2/8/06) were up, +12% in households (from 10.9/17), +17% in both adults 18-34 (from 6.5/18) and adults 18-49 (from 7.1/18), +18% in adults 25-54 (from 7.8/18) and added +3.06m viewers (from 17.00m, +18%).
Compared to 2005's GRAMMYS (the last time the program was on a Sunday), this year's ceremony was up +5% in households (from 11.6/18), +2% in adults 18-49 (from 8.1/19), +11% in adults 25-54 (from 8.3/18) and added +1.26m viewers (from 18.80m, +7%).
For the night, CBS was first in households (11.7/18), viewers (19.03m), adults 25-54 (8.1/18), adults 18-49 (7.1/17) and adults 18-34 (6.2/16). This is the fifth consecutive Sunday win for CBS in households, viewers and adults 25-54 and the fourth win in five weeks in adults 18-49.
Final Sunday ratings will be available on Tuesday.
