"Barbara Walters Presents the 10 Most Fascinating People of 2007" Wins its Hour Across All Key Adult Demos, Growing Over the 2006 Edition by 2.9 Million and by 48% in Adults 18-49

Thursday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's lineup of "Ugly Betty," "Grey's Anatomy" and "Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2007" took ABC to the top spot on Thursday night among Adults 18-49 (4.8/13), ahead of second-place CBS by 9% (4.4/11). The Net also led the night across each of the key women demographics: Women 18-34 (7.1/18), Women 18-49 (6.8/17) and Women 25-54 (7.3/17).

"Ugly Betty" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

Placing second to CBS' "Survivor: China" at 8:00 p.m., ABC's "Ugly Betty" defeated its NBC comedy competition in the hour ("My Name is Earl"/"30 Rock") by 2.7 million viewers (9.3 million vs. 6.6 million). For the 9th consecutive regular telecast, "Betty" ranked No. 1 in its time slot with Women 18-34, besting second-place "Survivor: China" by 14% (4.0/11 vs. 3.5/10).

"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" dominated the 9 o'clock hour and ranked as Thursday's No. 1 television program across each of the key adult demographics: Adults 18-34 (7.1/18), Adults 18-49 (7.1/17) and Adults 25-54 (7.6/17). In its time period, "Grey's" topped CBS' "C.S.I." by 31% in Adults 18-49 (7.1/17 vs. 5.4/13). It's the 10th consecutive original telecast that "Grey's Anatomy" has been Thursday's No. 1 TV show in the key young adult sales demographic.

"Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2007" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

In the final hour of primetime, ABC's "Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2007" won its time period in Adults 18-49 (4.6/12), outperforming CBS' "Without a Trace" by 44% (3.2/8) and the 300th episode of NBC's "ER" by 48% (3.1/8). The annual special led the hour among Adults 18-34 (4.4/13) and Adults 25-54 (5.0/12). J.K. Rowling was named the most fascinating person of 2007.

ABC's "Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2007" was up by 2.9 million viewers and by 48% in Adults 18-49 compared to the 2006 edition (8.8 million & 3.1/9 in Adults 18-49 on 12/12/06).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped from over 11% during the same point in 2006 up to more than 21% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
