Quick Take for Monday, December 31, 2007 (Fast Affiliate Live + Same Day Ratings)

ABC's New Year's Eve Lineup Wins Monday in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, Beating the Second-Place Nets by 2.7 Million Viewers and by 71% in Young Adults

ABC's Rebroadcast of the "Monday Movie of the Week: Shrek 2" Leads from 8-10pm, Defeating Fox's "Men in Black II" by 3.1 Million Viewers and by 43% in Adults 18-49

Ranking as Monday's No. 1 Program in Primetime in Viewers and Young Adults, "Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve" Attracts the ABC Annual Special's Largest Audience and Highest Adults 18-49 Rating in 6 Years

Monday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's New Year's Eve lineup of the "ABC Monday Movie of the Week: Shrek 2" and "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2008" won Monday evening in both Total Viewers (7.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.4/8), beating the second-place networks by 2.7 million viewers (5.1 million - CBS) and by 71% in Adults 18-49 (1.4/5 - Fox).

"ABC Monday Movie of the Week: Shrek 2" (8:00-10:00 p.m.)

The Net's rebroadcast of the "ABC Monday Movie of the Week: Shrek 2" attracted 7.1 million viewers and a 2.0 rating, 7 share in Adults 18-49, leading its 2-hour time period in both Nielsen measures.

"Shrek 2" outperformed its movie competition on the night, "Fox's Night at the Movies: Men in Black II" (4.0 million & 1.4/5), by 3.1 million viewers and by 43% in Adults 18-49.

"Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's broadcast of "Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve," led the final hour of prime and ranked as the No. 1 program in primetime in Total Viewers (9.2 million) across each of the key adult demos [Adults 18-34 (2.2/9), Adults 18-49 (3.1/11) and Adults 25-54 (3.5/11)], Teens 12-17 (3.2/14) and Kids 2-11 (2.5/11).

"Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve" was up over the previous year by nearly 1.0 million viewers and by 11% in Adults 18-49 (8.3 million & 2.8/9 in Adults 18-49 on 12/31/06). In fact, "Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve" delivered its best numbers in both viewers in young adults in 6 years since 2001.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has nearly doubled over 11% at the same point in 2006 up to over 21% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
